Farmall Cub

Well seeing as winter is almost here, I guess it is time for an update on me Pole Barn Project or the "New Home For My Cubs" saga.

As you may remember when we left off last winter.. it was a real chore once the snow began to fall on Remembrance Day to actually get the Pole Barn to a state where it could be left for the winter, and I would not have to freeze me tush off trying to get it done.

Along with other life issues such a grandchildren, kids.. moving, moving.. moving... and other exciting passtimes, it has been a while getting done. However, I am essentially weathertight and the Cubs are snug as bugs in a rug -- dry too!

Here are a few pics.. It ain't pretty, but it is sealed nicely. Hopefully siding and aluminum will come along next spring to match the house.

Why the Stop Sign you might ask? Well after my experience this summer on the private road that my wife's family own's, we are now closing our driveway daily. Seems people do not quite get the concept that private property is "well" private . Nearly every day we have somebody going for a drive down our driveway cause they think it is either access to the Mill, a shortcut to Melanson Road (they would have to invent a car that could swim because of the lake back ther) or just want to see what is up that road.... So we have to have private road, no trespassing, no swimming, no fishing and the stop sign along with a huge gate to keep people out. It is real scary when you come walking out of your shop with an armful of stuff for the cub shop and almost get run over by a stranger motoring down your driveway

So, with Duane home tomorrow to give Dad a hand, hopefully we will have the second section built, Gord and I will have the trailer unloaded by Thursday morning and I guess maybe I might be ready for an impromptu MiniFest on Friday morning. Seems Bruce and Dale will be down from Nova Scotia and Gord and I will be hosts... maybe we can get Ellie's head redone Friday.. we shall see.

Seems like you ready for the snow this year...and its coming soon. Nights are getting colder so I think any new snow that falls will be here to stay.

Yep, nice, nice, nice! But remember Larry's rule of space (essentially, stuff grows beyond the available amount of space regardless of how much space there is.)

I would love to test it out on an aircraft hanger.... talk about heaven! But tough to heat.

Thanks for all the nice comments, it is appreciated. I am enjoying this project. Besides getting the Cubs under cover, I am reestablishing room in my Cabinet Shop to actually play this winter. It is nice and toasty in there. I turned on the electric heat for about an hour today, just to bring the humidity down a tad. Really didn't need it as the new sheathing, plugged holes etc., has increased the ambient temp in the shop dramatically

Snow started at around 3pm today... Probably won't stay more than a day or two. Forecasting up to 12C on Tuesday... Winter isn't here yet, just enough to make it slippery and shut down roofing etc...

Country:

It already is pretty dry. The roof although not shingled, has two coats of asphalt over fibre tape and then a coat of heavy duty driveway sealer. Not exactly standard, but it does work. I am looking into the possibility of maybe becoming a demo project for the NB Tire Stewardshp Program - Recycled Shingle project. It may afford me a possible avenue to shingle for less than the expected $2,000.00 Cdn for regular asphalt shingles.. which don't last anywhere near their projected life expectancy. We shall see. It would be nice.... So far I have only found two tiny little drips in the pole barn, and I worked in it all day, pretty warm considering there is no heat and the sun was totally absent today.

There is no insulation yet. Going to rely on passive solar for most of my heating for this year. Maybe if I can find a warehouse that is being demolished or upgraded, I can get some recycled rolled fiberglass insulation to insulate the Pole Barn with. If it gets too cold in the interim, I guess one of them indoor propane heaters might work.. need to ventilate though.

It already is stuffed to the gills, but hopefully with the shelving I will be able to clear up enough room to actually work on my Cubs and the associated projects.

Do you think they are surprised when they get to the end and find themselves at treetop level??
