Need to Breathe

Got a project that you are working on that is not a tractor? Maybe a barn to hold your tractors or just fun stuff like woodworking, glass, tools, sheds, gardens, custom implements, etc., this is the place to talk about it.

Need to Breathe

Postby Rudi » Thu Aug 07, 2014 9:02 pm

Haven't been doing a heck of a lot outside since the spring as I have to constantly tote an O2 cylinder around with me. Have been tossing designs around in my head on tank holders for either my Cubs or the JD green thingy :-) Been hoping to get some used tank trolley's to cut up and weld together or aka cobble together some sort of support bracket for more than one tank as a tank only lasts about 45 mins to an hour for an E tank or 25 to 30 mins for a D tank.

Image

After a unsuccessful search for used trolleys .. I was in visiting my local medical supplier on another matter when I spied these Tank Brackets that use a Class 1 hitch receiver.

Image

Welll......... :-) So much for scrounging ... I made a deal and got 3 for $50.00 each. Works for me. Then off to Princess I went with one of them and test fitted some square tubing. Bought a 4 foot length and then called me brother-in-law Ray and asked him to do a little fabbing for me. Not that I can't do it myself -- but it isn't advisable to weld when one is sniffin pure O2

I kinda described to Ray what I wanted, made a quick sketch and gave him the tubing and the tank brackets. Told him I would bring the bracket on the back of the JD over a little bit later. He measured that up and said ok .. after he came back from doing an estimate he would have a look at it.

Anyways .. took me about a half hour I guess to take the bracket off. Only a couple bolts but that can be difficult when wearing an O2 canula and a CLEO in your gut ... Went over to Ray's and much to my surprise he had already started on the fixture. Decided to forgo the estimate as he had the job anyways and he wanted to play. So I gave him the bracket and went off to do a few appointments etc., whilst I had my attendant with me.

Later that evening Ray knocked on the door and asked me what I thought ...

And I can still fuel the green critter even with tanks on board

Now I can cut grass for a couple hours without having to run back to the house to get another tank :{_}:

Only thing left to do now is take it off and paint it. Probably going to be black 8)

Cool Rudi. If you used one of those tank holders for a nitrous tank for the tractor you could get done faster AND have a thrill ride!

Ingenious.

By the way, since this is an IH Cub forum, what is the meaning of the logo with the terrified deer on the seat back of the green lawn tractor.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Nice work Rudi. I think it was Thomas Edison who once said "genius is 90% perspiration and 1% inspiration" I think you got all of that 1% :{_}: :{_}:

Well, all I can say Eugene is that Em bought it and I will use it ...

I think the Deere is afraid of me Cubs ... it is kinda outnumbered. And the 129 isn't up and running yet. Getting Gord's done first and then I get the rest of the parts from the parts 129 :-)

Thanks guys for the nice comments, they are appreciated. This little project has got me a bit energized to start other stuff and actually have a shot at getting them done.

Rudi,
Very nice.

Looks like it could double for your Canada Day July 1st celebration as a mobile fireworks launcher.
