Well that answer that...you are from Donegal! I had been wondering. This calls for a Cubfest!

What's a cubfest? Is it like what we in Ireland call a vintage show of tractors. There are lots of terms on the Cub forum that I'm only guessing at the meaning of. Fantastic forum great guys with a great sense of humour!!! I am reading the posts every day and I learn a lot about the cub (pet) that I have. Did not think that many people would know where Donegal is.

Bernard, There is a distinct difference between a tractor show and a Cubfest. At a Cubfest someone can bring a tractor that they need help with repairing, don't know what is wrong, or don't know how to do it. Several other attendees will jump in and help them fix the tractor. I've have seen virtually everything except a complete engine rebuild done. If there are 20, 30, 40, or more participants; a LOT of work gets done. There can also be parts for sale, plowing, discing, etc., as the host's property allows. There are a fun and fantastic show of friendship and helpfulness.

Hi Bob,
Many thanks for your info. So if someone wants a job done on his tractor that he cannot do himself, he invites a few of his tractor enthusiasts friends round to his place and puts on a barbie keeps them fed and watered and gets the job done on his tractor all at the same time. What a brilliant idea!! We don't have them here in Ireland at all. It seems to me like a great way of having a good time and making good friends, and learning how to repair things on your tractor. We have our vintage machinery shows during the summer months, (note) our last 3 summers have been a washout. Thanks again for the info,

Bernard...I dated an Irish girl who talked about Donegal often...her name was Maureen Connolly..She passed away 4 years ago from a terminal illness at 37. She wanted to bring back to her family's town ConnolMare or something like that. Hope you can visit stateside for a Cubfest sometime.

Bernard, thanks for sharing your bio with us. It is always interesting to learn more about the great folks you share this forum with.

A little clarification on CubFests. Usually the host invites other members over to work on the other members Cubs, not specifically the host's Cub. Let's say Raymond needs to put a clutch in his Cub and needs some first hand knowledge. He may load it up and bring it to the next CubFest that may be near him. There may be 7, 8 or even a dozen if not more Cubs brought from all over. As Bob said, others will jump in and help get the job done. Others may not bring a Cub but maybe a carb or mag that needs work. Some bring nothing, but come to learn. That is the thing with CubFests, you may teach, or you may learn, sometimes both, but regardless of which it is, a lot of knowledge is shared.

It is not uncommon for many members to travel 8 to 12 hours or more one way to get to a CubFest. They then get a room for a night or two at a motel so they can take in all they can. The fun they will have is always worth it.

As Barnyard stated, we shy away from working on the cubs belonging to the host. We prefer to work on tractors belonging to the guests that need the assistance.

Hi All,
Enjoyed reading your info and comments re cub-fests. No Chance of me visiting the USA until 2015. I am heavily involved in soccer refereeing, having been elected President of Irish Soccer Referees Society for a second term which expires in September 2014, although September in most parts of the USA seems a wonderful time to go there. So maybe then I will go in 2014. I am also involved in the governing body of soccer in Ireland ie FAI (Football Association of Ireland). I have like a lot of distant Irish relations in USA, I have 1st Cousins in Lumberton NC. It has always been an ambition to visit since my grand uncle Bernard Molloy (a police Captain) invited me over in 1962. I was only 15 at that time and would not leave home!!! . Rudi there are a lot of Ferguson owners around here so maybe a FERGIE-FEST might be on the agenda. All derivatives of the wee grey Ferguson (I also have one) were very popular in Ireland as well the Fordsons. Henry Ford set up his factory in Cork to make tractors, but after a few years moved to Dagenham in England. Must stop rambling on, thanks again for all the info. Chris can't think of a town in Donegal with a name that sounds like that. There is an area in West Galway called Connemara, but that is 150 - 200 miles south of Donegal. I remember a fantastic world class tennis player from USA called Maureen Connolly. There I go rambling again,
