buying printer

Postby John *.?-!.* cub owner » Tue Feb 14, 2017 2:11 pm

I am looking to buy a printer for use in my shop, and possibly for emergency use at house should mine fail when the tractor club newsletter is due. Since the shop is only heated in the area when and where I work, and the printer may not be used for a month or two at a time, I am thinking laser rather than inkjet, with WIFI, and preferably duplex (automatic 2 sided printing). Needless to say I want to keep price low and was wanting to know of any recommendations for ones that match my criteria.

Hey old man:

Are you wanting any other functions such as scanning or copying? Do you want color or black and white? HP has a laser that is black and white for only 120 dollars. My neighbor has one and they like it.

black and white, and printing is my main concern. I have 3 other printers that have scan, copy, fax, print capabilities.

I really like the little epson and the 4 year protection plan for 9.50 sounds good.

John, I've had a Brother HL-2270DW (about $99 two years ago) that I've been extremely happy with ... for a low priced laser printer it has surpassed all of my expectations. There are newer versions of this printer and I assume they are still pretty good.

Whatever you get, be sure and check if they have decent print drivers for what you are printing from, PC, Tablet, Windows, Android, iOS, etc. Drivers can be a problem for some devices.

Good luck!

I had a Brother printer several years ago, and was disappointed in it, and have been using HP ever since. I have however been seeing a lot of good comments on the les expensive Brother lasers lately, so I am leaning toward one of them. I plan to use it with my Android tablet. I have the cub parts and service manuals in it, and it would be handy to print a hard copy of an occasional page when at the shop.
