Can not stop the computer attack.

Postby Barnyard » Fri Jan 09, 2015 4:42 pm

For the past week I have been getting a pop up window from Norton telling me that it has blocked an attempt by Trojan zBot Activity 15 to access my computer. When I check my Norton history there is an entry every hour at 15 minutes after the hour saying it blocked an intrusion. These entries are at 2:15pm, 3:15pm, 4:15pm, and on and on. Whatever it is, it is consistent with attacking every hour 24/7.

Here is the pop up and the security history.

Norton has done a great job of blocking this so I am not interested in changing virus software. Since it is coming from outside my computer the software can only block it.

Any ideas how I can stop the attacks.

Bill, you might want to see this topic on the Norton community site: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/ ... ctivity-15

It looks like it could be pretty nasty... potential for stealing password, etc.

If you don't have them, install Spybot and Malware; both are free and excellent.

Then go buy a Mac and stop all the foolishness.

You reminded me of what I don't miss about the Windows environment.

John, I have tried a few of the self helps but not the one you linked to. I guess that one may be next.

Dennis, I have read a lot about this and found what you said about it being nasty. I am approaching this with caution.

Rick, I have both spyware and Malware protection loaded and they find nothing.

I had my computer in for work just before Christmas because my Norton disappeared and I could not reload it. They found several bugs and took care of that. I asked about this new problem and he said since it is an outside attack it appears that it is not actually on my computer so Norton has nothing to delete. It can only block anything trying to get on.

He said his work it is still under warranty so I should bring it in Monday and they will take another look. I reckon that may be my answer.

Love my Mac. Apple does tick me off at times, but then I think about problems I always had with windows and realize I'm good to go

Well here is an update. I tried the Norton reload and it didn't help. I tried changing the IP and no help. I finally took it back to have it checked for a bug and they said my hard drive was dying. since it was under warranty after the last virus cleaning they did I only had to pay for the hard drive and no labor. I believed the part about the hard drive since my pc is much quieter now. It cured my attack problem. I am having a few issues, but I am getting those taken care of as the occur, so all is well and good in the barnyard again.

By the way, the only apples I plan to have around here are the ones on my trees.

I do have to add that one of my new problems is having the forum lock up and a message at the bottom saying farmallcub.com is not responding. That is my main problem to correct at this time.

I switched my Toshiba windows 8 laptop over to Linux for free. No issues at all. Windows is just too big a target for the hackers.
