Google Ads

Postby Don McCombs » Tue Aug 16, 2011 8:05 am

I have recently been getting a Google Ads link that runs every time I change screens on the board. It really bogs down my computer. Is anyone else getting the same thing or is it my computer or internet connection? Thanks.

No, it shows along the bottom of the screen where the status is shown. It says "Waiting for http:/googleads.g.doubleclick.net/....." I can do other things while it's running, but it takes 45 seconds to a minute for it to go away.

Don:

I get the same thing, not all the time, but it does happen which is why I notice it. I tend to filter out the ads -- you see what you want to see I guess. I am not sure why we get them ... I would have supposed that once logged in that we wouldn't see them all the time, guess I was wrong. And yeah, it does slow down the connection. I do not think it is you computer but more than likely your ISP's bandwidth allocation that is reaching capacity for your ip and is slowing down because of the ads and other junk that seems to be commonplace these days. I remember when the net was pretty quick. ... . ... mostly cause we didn't have advertising  but I guess we have to pay the piper somehow.

As Dennis said a while back, the ads keep the cost of upkeep for the board down. I check my connection speed periodically. I seem to get a pretty consistent 750 kbps download speed. I'm not sure that test tells the whole story, though.

Don:

I have the second fastest package my ISP offers .. 30mb down, 3meg up and sometimes the ads will cause the pages to lag. Ads are no biggie.... sometimes my rememberer doesn't work so well - I know on some forums when you log in the ads disappear. Course .. then it wouldn't be much of a revenue generator for the forum would it...  - and the ads are pretty ok. None of that weird stuff you find on some forums. These are at least geared for tractor nuts
