Video EditingI've been trying to edit some video clips I have taken with my Samsung Andriod phone. One of the nice features it has is the HD video recorder. However, instead of just uploading snippets to Youtube, I'd like to drop them into an editing program and combine them and edit them into a better video. The problem so far has been that Windows Movie Maker 2.6 will not accept the video files after I convert them into the recommeded ones. (I've converted from 3GP...into MPEG...AVI...WMV...DVXd....and a host of other formats, using a freeware video converter.) The error code states that I'm missing a codec for that file. This is begining to be more effort than seems worth. Is there something obvious I'm missing, or is this just a tedious undertaking. We do run both Windows and Mac in the same household.....but judging how a PC acts when you plug in an iphone....I don't really want to plug in the andriod to the mac.
Re: Video EditingHarold, I had a similar problem with my movie camera. What I did was saved the file into a folder on my PC. Then in Movie Maker where you open the files I clicked on "Files of Type" at the bottom. Then I clicked on "All Files". This showed all my other movies I had stored. Then I picked the ones I wanted.

Re: Video EditingHarold:
I have a couple of audio/video conversion programs that require additional codecs. When I need a codec I go to their home page then to support/codecs and download the ones I need. I would think that Windows Media Player also would have additional codecs available for download and integration into your program. I googled Windows Movie Maker additional codec downloads and found some interesting sites. These might work : VIDEO CODECS, I am not all that familiar with Movie Maker, my son is trying to help me understand it. Got a few more to do yet. However, what Bill suggests makes sense as that is how I was able to load my Canon video files into Movie Maker. Re: Video EditingI have the exact issue with all the videos taken from my phone or from my video camera, and I found a great program that converts to a usable file (.AVI is my format)... I did a search on google and came up with a free 3GP converter from DVD videosoft. It works great and saves the file in a usable format for me to edit into Microsoft MovieMaker... it worked great for me.
Here is the download site that I used: http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/products/dvd/Free-3GP-Video-Converter.htm If you need help operating the program, send me a PM or e-mail...I have converted TONS of them using this software... Mike in La Crosse, WI Mike in Gibsonia, PA

Re: Video Editing
After I posted my response I checked mine and found that I also have version 6. I'm sure that makes a difference. Probably why my new camera works with it. I don't believe in taking the bull by the horns. I took a goat by the horns once and that was enough excitement for me.

Re: Video EditingWell.....I'm using Windows 7 and MM 2.6 is what was bundled.....I'll check into that. In the meantime, the file converter Mike pointed to works great and was simple to use......solved my issue for now. Thanks again everyone for the fixes.
Re: Video EditingOK then... where are all the movies that you have edited??

Re: Video EditingI started a new thread over on the cub forum. Wasn't much...but it's a start.
