Needle Scalers

As odd tools go Needle Scalers certainly fit. I heard that they are work savers and figured I'd share what I found out after getting the two that harbor freight had to offer. The first is listed as compact and while light weight does a decent job.

The second is larger and heavier. It It also costs more than twice as much but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. While the smaller unit works well the larger scaler works noticeably faster.

A really big plus with these things is they do not fling material everywhere. It just scrapes it off and nothing is lifted into the air, your hair or eyes.
Bottom line, I'd say these are worth having.
These shots show a quick use of both tools.
The larger scaler... you couldn't read this before and it only took a minute.

Now the smaller scaler...

i have had the larger one for several years. My main use of it is removing welding slag, and removing rust and scale from the interior of tractor wheels. a couple words of caution, do not use on sheet metal, and when working on something like rear wheels wear hearing protection. Oil it frequently.

My problem with my needle scaler is that I don't usually remember that I have one! It's a very handy tool, especially when removing heavy build up of rust or paint. It sure makes my cats run & hide, though.

 That was my thought too! I was struggling to clean up some finals for paint and duh..... this is what I bought my needle scaler for! I had completely forgotten about it. I have an in-line oiler on the swivel pigtail for this tool.
