6 volt Cub Starter

Postby Eugene » Tue May 21, 2019 3:39 pm

Just ordered a new 6 volt starter for the Cub from DB Electrical for $125-, free shipping, 1 year warranty.

Yesterday the Bendix spring broke. Disassembled the starter, only the case was good. The DB starter was a bit more expensive than the price of the needed replacement parts.

Kept the older starter for parts.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Starter for Cub ordered two days ago, received today. And it works. No starter switch, used the old one.

Really great service from DB Electrical.

Gonna collect on DB Electrical's one year warranty. Starter quit, as in froze up.

List of problems upon disassembly.
Threads on a screw/bolt holding the over running clutch to shaft was stripped. Screw came out and jammed into the starter nose.
Field wires attached to the brushes were not tightened. Both wires slipped out of the screws.
One brush was not properly anchored in it's frame, causing the one corner of the brush to wear in contact with the commutator.
I have an excuse. CRS.

DB Electrical's warranty service, excellent.
8 days from the time the broken starter was received by DB Electrical until it arrived on my porch, and that includes a 3 day weekend.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Eugene, are you still happy with your DB Electrical starter? Any more problems? Would you buy one again from them? My friend's starter was quoted at $200+ for rebuild, and I'm trying to get him the best deal.
