Farmall Cub

Several Forum friends have contacted me to inquire about our wellbeing, so I thought I would post a little about what has been going on locally. First of all, Sue and I and our property is fine. We've had 5-6" of rain since Tuesday which is about one half of our normal annual total. The only "hardship" we've had was 18 hours without water yesterday. Handled that by getting water at my Sister's house in buckets and coolers to water the horses and flush the toilets. There are about 6 main rivers that flow eastward out of the northern mountains. Runoff areas have experienced 10-18" of rain which has caused all of them to overflow their banks. Most of those rivers flow through the middle of a city, ie. Denver, Boulder, Longmont, Loveland, Ft. Collins, and Greeley. Since Tuesday we have essentially been confined to about a 10 x 10 square mile area. A flooded stream 1/2 mile to the north of us prevented northern travel. The flooding of the St. Vrain river that flows through the south end of Longmont caused the evacuation of 7200 homes in the flood plain. There were no routes across the river until today when flows dropped. I-25 which is the main north south interstate was closed from north of Denver to the Wyoming border and just reopened today. Rain is still predicted until tomorrow afternoon and then it will take days for the water to recede and allow damage to be evaluated. So far there are 4 confirmed deaths with about 180 people unaccounted for. It is thought that most of them evacuated or are in locations where they are cut off from contact. Rocky Mtn. National Park was closed and all visitors escorted out as Estes Park was flooded. Both Estes and Lyons were cut off with road washouts and flooding over roads. I know a lot of you face flooding frequently, but this has been called a 500 year flood and is extremely unusual for Colorado. I appreciate your concern and hope you'll keep those affected in your thoughts and prayers as they begin to rebuild their lives.

Has anybody heard from Peanut. I know he and his family were headed for Estes Park for a while.

Bob, thanks very much for the update. Peanut and Rachael and their girl needs to be in our prayers. Hope they got out of there before the rains hit. They were planning on tent camping for a week.
We have been keeping up with the floods on the news but they only tell the minimum. The horrible flood we had back in March, about 30 mile South of here killed 4. Again, it was in a place that no one can remember ever seeing flooded. The extreme weather patterns we are having across the US are problematic to those who have to deal with them.

If you get any more rain you will need a cub powered boat!, glad you ok

I had talked to Bob earlier yesterday and when he told me this I said I thought the problem was because they had too much water.

From what I saw out there it looks like there is a deep valley between you and the Rockies. Would that prevent any rivers from flooding you? I imagine it would only cause you to remain as a 10 x 10 square mile island as you seem to be now.

The topography around our house would effectively keep us safe from flooding unless the Ark was floating by.

If the water gets up to Bob's house, we're all in trouble.

Glad to know you and yours are ok I have been thinking of you and hoping you were not in the flood zone.
