Gord Needs Our Prayers

Postby Rudi » Wed Jul 03, 2013 11:33 am

Probably the best friend I have in life is Gordon Trail. Like many of my friends he is a tad bit older than I am .. let's say that I am an old coot but he is a slightly mellowed gentleman. Gord was the one who posted on the old forum about my coronary issues back in '04 so he is no stranger to our community, he just lurks in the weeds on the new forum.

This morning when Em was on her way to a Physio appointment, she stopped on the 4th floor to visit Sammy (her 19th month in hospital tomorrow). As the elevator doors opened Em got a shock, it was Gord's wife and Em's friend Liliana. Shocked she asked Lilli what she was doing there? Lilli said that Gord suffered a stroke some time on Monday. He is in the room next door to Sam. I was there visiting Sam yesterday and didn't know he was there. Lilli was too busy calling family across the country - all his kids are away in different provinces/cities.

I am going up this afternoon to visit Gord and will report back. Em did say when she got home a few minutes ago that he is conscious, aware of stuff and trying to communicate. He is slurring a lot and it seems to have affected his right side predominantly.

So, your prayers are badly needed.

This is Gord's first time in hospital ever and I know he is pretty worried. Lilli is just beside herself.

They are able to do great things these days with stroke victims. Hopefully they got him on the meds in time. Wishing him and his family all the best.

Hi Rudi,
Don is spot on, they can do wonderful medical things now if the patient is got in the early stages. Recovery can be slow but steady with medical help and physiotherapy. Prayers are offered in Donegal for a speedy recovery for your friend.
Bernard,

Re: Gord Needs Our Prayers

I went to visit Gord this afternoon after my dental. Got there and as I was crossing the street .. who was there sitting in a wheelchair beside his son? Yup, Matt had brought Gord down for some fresh air. We had a bit of a chat .. for about 20 mins or so then we took him up to his room .. next door to Sam -- wow still can't get over that :D He was pretty tired. He had been out for about a half hour or so and it really tuckered him out.

As I was chatting with him, I kinda repaid the favour he did me back in '04 bringing me updates from the forum. I read him some of the postings to this thread, and you could see the sparkle in his eye. He sends his thanks and I will continue to read these to him when I go visit. I am hoping I talked Matt into getting Gord to sign in .. we will see.

No real results from the tests so far. As soon as I know I will pass along the news.

Thanks guys for the prayers offered up, Gord appreciates them too.

Gord was transferred from 4600 to 4400 - the Rehab Ward. I expect he will be there for a bit. Missed him today when I went up to visit Sam. I guess Lilli was able to take him home for the evening. I expect to see him on Monday.

Mandy will probably be a ward mate. She was admitted back to hospital after another MS relapse on Wednesday evening.

At least my visiting will be all in one place or on the same floor

Prayers from RI! Gordon and Lillian are truly delightful people and I surely hope for a quick recovery.

Tell them both I send my best wishes!

It was funny, Gordon's H (M?) was being towed to somewhere at Rudi's fest and Lillian asked me how many Cubs I had and I answered whatever number at the time. Then she asked me how many of them ran.... I could honestly say 'all of them'. She was a bit surprised.
