Re: Prayers Would Be Greatly AppreciatedFolks:
I have been passing along the remarks to Samantha over the last little bit when she is receptive. The drugs that they are using tend to keep her very tired and almost in a daze most of the time. Hasn't addressed the pain but they are making progress on reducing the amount of seizures and the intensity which is a Godsend in itself. Samantha said she doesn't have the words to express how she feels about all the wishes and prayers except thank you and that she does feel the prayers. (+). Re: Prayers Would Be Greatly Appreciated - Update -Samantha has been holding her own for the most part but the last week has been especially difficult. She has been suffering a number of seizures .. all RSD/CRPS events. Today she had a very bad one -- this time she lost consciousness during the spasms/seizure for the first time. Chest pains and a lot of other stuff. A lot of difficulty breathing, elevated heart rate .. like 162 bpm with a BP of 90/46 and reduced O2 levels. They took some blood tests, then an ECG and called the on call physician (our family locum). Em has been with Sam since 11am this morning and I was visiting Sam around 2 pm when she ended up having another event. The nurses brought in the ECG again followed by an X-ray in her bed. Things got really crowded in her room so I took Mandy and Abbigail home and went home myself to await a call from Em. About an hour later I finally got a call .... The on-call had consulted with a cardiologist and he had transfered her to CCICU ... because the blood test was showing that her heart was in distress - enzymes that are present during cardiac arrest were present. The cardiologist then ordered a CAT scan with dye after she had been transferred to CCICU. Em said later that Sam was having a lot of pain during the transport. The nurses going with her questioned her as to what the seizures were like and she said it was like having a major charley-horse, but in every muscle over every part of your body all at the same time. The pulmonary difficulties just exacerbated the pain .. and she is on a lot of pain-killers .. morphine and a bunch of others.
Anyways, Em called back and told me to come back to the hospital around 2030hrs so I did. Went up to CCICU and had a real shock. My 24 year old daughter is in the exact same room as her father was back in November of 2004 before I went to St. John for my operation. When I walked into the room, I had to immediately turn around and walk out --- the emotions where just too immediate. Calmed down and then visited my daughter for a while. She is on 7l/hr of O2, IV morphine/blood thinners and a whole raft of other drugs. She is resting but not exactly comfortably ... we hope that will change. We really could use a few more prayers folks. This surely has been a rough go for our family and we know that it is going to be rough for a while longer. Thanks for all the prayers and wishes, as I mentioned before .. Sam has felt them and they have helped her through this so far. Peace (+) Confusion breeds Discussion which breeds Knowledge which breeds Confidence which breeds Friendship

Re: Prayers Would Be Greatly Appreciated - Update -I think they are workin ...
Update: After the tests and all, the cardiologist was able to offer a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan. She has been bed ridden for a long time now, so they have to use preventative measures .. unfortunately they didn't use enough blood thinners for her. Seems she ended up tossing some clots - in fact it was a pulmonary embolism that affected both lungs and it came real close. She rested over night - 1 on 1 nursing staff and they managed to thin her blood a bit. Her heart rate is down and BP is up a bit but she is still on O2. Not sure how long she will be in CCICU, and not sure where they are going to send her after ... but for the moment she is somewhat stable. Mom and Dad however, that is a different story.......
