My son left for basic.....

Postby Ken (48 Cub) » Wed Oct 01, 2008 5:31 pm

Well my son Jason Left for basic training yesterday afternoon. Leave it to the Army to change his orders at the last minute. Instead of Fort Jackson, SC he was sent to Fort Sill, OK. There were a few tears at the airport. I had to choke back some emotions myself. We are very proud of him. It's going to be a long 10 -12 weeks.

Hooah!

IN years to come he will look back at this time as the best time in his life, i do. I enjoyed every bit of my eight years. Would have retired, but was medically retired at 8.

I want to echo these sentiments. We pray each day at school for the men and women who serve our country. Now every day, I will think of Jason.

Ken:

Serving one's country is probably the greatest gift one can give. We all serve in one form or another, or at least that is what I believe. However, those who serve in their country's Armed Forces are the ones whose service is of an exceptional order.

Tell your son, that in the service of his nation, there can be no finer gift than what he has to give - himself. Remind him of all those who will benefit by his selfless service and that he is to be commended for standing up and being counted.

As others have said, I am proud of being able to have served my country, I am proud of my twin and my baby brother. I am equally as proud of my son-in-law and his service to both of our nations in the USMC.
