Last week I did not feel very well fever chills figured ok the flu. Saturday morning about 15 minutes after I got up I began to shake with the chills next some trouble breathing, next the emergency room. Don't remember the first hour or so when the Dr, spoke with me the first time he said I was better but very sick. Well my temp when they got me on the table was between 105 and 106 not healthy of course. THe ER staff was great they got my temp down and I was in a room by about 2 pm, of course many tests were run throughout the am. I felt better like I was run over by a huge truck but better. The next 48 hrs. brought a lot of needles Drs. and me saying get me out. Enough rambling here is what I know I have had a horrible infection running through my body for a long time growing and spreading in me in my blood YUCK it has been there a while, bad news in the heart valves good news got it before permant damage was done. I had what they call a pick put in my arm and for the next 6 or so weeks I will be having IV anti biotics at home a couple of hours every night. The other thing that was found is I have high blood suger and now I have joined millions of Americans and many of you I have type II diabetes. All of this is a bit over whelming but with the support of my friends and the help of my wife I will recover.
Sorry this was so long, this group is a big part of my life, family I would say. So remember me in a prayer or when you look to a sunset or with just a kind thought. I have a lot of things left on my to do list and this is just a rather large bump in the road.
I am proud to have met many of you and look forward to meeting more in the future, thanks for letting me ramble.
Joe

Joe, take care of yourself and get back on the road to good health. Diabetes can be reversed with diet and exercise.

Glad to hear you are on the mend. Listen at least you are able to tell us about it, I think that is grand.

Joe,

I am sorry to read of your recent misfortunes. At least you went to the doctor and got the diagnosis... There are many men who would have just 'toughed it out' and not gone...

At least you now know what is wrong and can take steps to correct it! I have you in my thoughts and prayers, buddy!

Joe,

So often what seems like a bump in the road turns out to be a real blessing. It all happens for a reason. Take care and get well.

Joe, good to hear that you're on the mend. Take care of yourself, and do what the doctors tell you. You'll be good as new, after a few more needle sticks. Ed

Joe:

First, count on it, prayers are on the way... (+) to you and all of your family. The Lord is taking care of you.. in His way. Second, glad that you went to ER and let them do their magic. Being sick and in the hospital sucks.. and getting that kind of news doesn't much help improve the mood. However, the good news does.

Here is some more good news. Type II Diabetes can be maintained and in many cases not only controlled but the severity can be reduced greatly to almost pre-diagnosis levels. Getting plenty of good cardio excercise, watching sugar intake, eating healthy - I mean healthy.. lots of veggies and such, and (this was excruciating for me -- giving up stuff like TeeWurst, Brats and other German Delicacies was brutal, but I am now obtaining 10% or less fat products -- which is excellent), paying lots of attention to what goes into our foods can be very helpful. I like many have gone from large doses of Metformin and similar diabetic drugs to maintaining my Type II via Diet and Excercise. Best thing I ever did.. plus of course.. quit smoking.. that helped a lot. Also for me, I began losing my addiction to desserts about 10 years ago as a side effect of many of my meds, and that was a bonus and helped me lose 50 lbs and keep it off.

Totally understand.. ain't this just the greatest :big smile: This forum has helped me through so much, and I know it will be of help to you also. It is all about the people ... and how we interact. A really big family.. with tons of cousins we haven't all met in person yet :!:
