splitting a Cub. Really? Yes a very good day. You see, I've been working through some back problems and not able to accomplish much without some assistance since mid January. Our next door neighbor has been real helpful and has never backed away from helping when asked. However, I wanted to split this Cub by myself, if possible. It was! I just had to go about it differently.

Bill I remember how that feels to be able to do something again. Before and after my shoulder surgeries I wondered if I would ever be able to do things I had done all my life. I don't do it as fast (I'm halfast anyway) and sometimes it takes a while to find the best way rather than bull through, but I can usually git er done. Just go slow, don't get hurt. John

Put the Cub back together just a bit ago and will finish the process tomorrow. I wanted to share how I was able to put it together.
I normally push the front away from the rear, but this time I pushed the rear away. Using the two wheel chocks, kept in the Cubhouse, and with some minor glitches the Cub was separated. The wheel chocks allowed considerable movement of the front end, leading to some of the glitches experienced.
Based on my experience separating the Cub, I knew that I had to eliminate, if possible, the movement of the front end. Some serious thought concerning the problem and I realized that I kept another pair of chocks in the trailer toolbox. Retrieved the chocks from the trailer and a pair of strap clamps (from my woodworking days) and this is what I came up with:
They worked much better than I hoped and made the job much easier. I'm going to do this on all of my future splits.
For those wanting to know the wheel chocks are Harbor Freight items. The strap clamps are from who knows where, I've been carrying those around for years.

Bill - So glad to hear you are doing better.
What a great idea for using the chocks that most of us have laying around. I am adding this idea to my Cub splits and have moved them next to the splitting jacks and wooden wedges so that I don't forget.
