If we are blessed to live long enough, changes have to be made in our life styles. The time is coming for my family to make this adjustment.
It has become apparent that due to my health situation I can no longer maintain my home and acreage properly. So, my wife Billie and I are making plans to move into a retirement community. Just recently, we added our names to a waiting list to purchase a unit in town when one becomes available. There is no way to predict when this will happen. Could be this year or even next year.
But eventually my farm, horse, tractors, implements and a shop with my good tools will be sold. This will not happen until we get moved and settled in our new place. By the way, we have been on this farm for 50 years this year. Lots of “stuff” has accumulated.
It’s too soon to start selling anything now, but I will give my forum friends first choice for my cubs and related goodies.
I just wanted to share this and keep you informed about us. I don’t plan to go away. I will continue to be active and contribute to the forum when I can share some my limited wisdom. Having the opportunity to attend cubfests is one of my best “look forward tos” in my life.

Re: Time for a change
Ron,
We must all face these changes eventually. Whether in our own lives or the lives of family and friends. New interests will evolve that are consistent with your new lifestyle. Hope to continue to see you here and at many Cubfests in the years to come.

Ron, I hate to hear you have to give up a lifestyle you have loved these so many years. Rosie and I wish you the best in whatever you decide. Take care of yourself.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Ron, I wish you nothing but the best. We all slow down in one way or another. I have a couple of responses to the question, "How ya doin'?" #1 Not to bad for the shape I'm in. #2 My mind writes checks that my body can't cash. Best of luck to you and Billie.

Boy have I slowed down in the past couple of years. Front of the refrigerator where we use to keep kids drawings is now covered with medical appointment cards.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Time for a change
Almost 2 years ago, a cottage came available at a retirement community on whose wait list my sister and I have been for over 10 years. We are now at the top, with refusal rights, but the cottage they offered was one she and I could share, the largest on the property, and doesn't come vacant very often.
As we made the decision to move, we realized we each had a house to sell, a farm with tractors, And TONS of accumulated "stuff". My sister is a retired architect, and she began the allowed renovation drawings, while I ran around selecting appliances, etc.
When the time came to sign on the dotted line, we baulked, because the time restrictions they put on completion of renovations was too tight, and we would need to "pay in" & start paying rent. There was no way, so we basically said "never mind"...we'll wait for another one.
The realization of just how much work was involved in the transistion, was a huge eye opener! The real problem, however, is that we settled back into the comfort of our 2 large homes, farm with tractors, surrounded by all our "stuff", and have done nothing to prepare for that ideal cottage or apartment that could be offered at any time!!!

Re: Time for a change
I know it was a tough decision to make. Things are constantly changing in our lives, we just feel the bigger ones more.
Blessings to you in this transition.

Re: Time for a change
We have been slowly making the same changes. Much smaller garden, doing less work both with and on tractors, less traveling to shows, etc. I can see the day in the not too far off future of having to do the same thing.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
you are part of the problem!!!

Ron, I feel your pain. I can not do anything any more.
I am hooked to this oxygen hose. The only difference is I refuse to move. I will let it grow up in pine trees before I move.
