Gasoline Price

Postby Dan England » Mon Aug 29, 2005 12:41 pm

My son called me a few minutes ago to tell me that he had heard reports of a price jump of ninety cents per gallon. I took my truck to Easy Mart and filled up at $2.49 /gallon. While there I talked to a lady who was filling her vehicle. She works at a Buzz-Buy store in Magnolia and said that their supplier called and told them to raise price by 20 cents/gallon and that it might soon increase by 50 cents/gallon. I realize that Katrina has/will disrupt off-shore production and transportation but this is still pretty hard to take when oil companies are showing near record profits. Sure hope the Bush adm. acts to control the price increase. Are other forum members seeing a dramatic price increase today? Dan

I haven't seen a price increase, but have seen a lot of activity at several stations. Price here is 1.38 at self-serve pumps.

I think I'll move to NW KY with Festus :P I haven't seen $1.38 for gas in quite sometime! It's still around $2.55 for reg in the Atlanta/NE Ga. area.

Think he meant $2.38 and that's still a good price!

Jim: I agree that one can spend more per volume for water than for gas. However, I don't think that this is a valid comparison. We buy six packs of water but sometimes we refill empty bottles from the tap. Cost is probably 2-3 cents/bottle. I know of no substitute for gasoline which costs so little. You and I and many forum members can afford to pay $2.50-$3.00 per gallon for gas. We don't like it but we can combine several trips to a grocery store into one trip and thus control the costs. But everyone, even those with no gas powered vehicles, will suffer from higher gas prices. Practically everything which we buy will have been moved from factory to warehouse to retail store by gas powered vehicles and the retail price will soon reflect the added cost of transportation. I think that a huge increase in gas prices will reflect negatively on the health of our economy and will have its greatest impact on those folks with low income and who barely make it till the next payday. Just my thoughts. Dan

There have been several recent news programs and articles on how the price of gasoline effects the budgets of local government entities. Many of these entities are at or near the end of their gasoline budget for the fiscal year.
Local government entities receive a significant portion of their annual budget from property taxes. Meaning, we will almost certainly see another round of increases in the local property tax.

The cost of gasoline installed in the tank hurts. But it going to hurt more when the local and state agencies cut back on services to save money and the increased transportation costs for goods and services.

Our local sheriff has mandated that all patrol cars sit for 15 minutes out of every 1 hour of patrol. Do you suppose they shut their engines off or sit there enjoying the air conditioning?

You do all know this will mean the price for Cubs will go up due to the high cost of gas? What better way to get to work than on your Cub it's the most economical means of transportation I have around. :D It will also improve your health! :P Less stress because no one will be cutting in and out of traffic! No speeding tickets. 8) This will help local police department cut back on patrols and keep property taxes down! The end result will be everyone will want to buy a Cub! (This could be Good or Bad)

Its too depressing to talk about high gas prices

Lots of talk around Atlanta today of the gas pipline problems due to Katrina. Looks like gas here will be over $3.00 a gal by in the morning if not by nightfall. I went to get some concrete mix at lunch and couldn't find a station I could get into to even get gas. Looks like folks around here have started a run on gasoline. Price right now is $2.75 a gal most places some higher but not very many lower.
