Morel Mushrooms

Postby ricky racer » Thu May 21, 2015 7:49 pm

It looks like we're coming to the end of our morel mushroom season here in Michigan. Last Sunday, my daughter Ashlynn and I were out looking without a lot of luck, only finding a couple handfuls of fairly small ones. Then just as we were about to call it a day, we found these two. These are easily the largest morels that we have ever found.

Ricky, We've had rain every day this month except for two. I've got fungi sprouting up all over the place. To my surprise I thought I had a couple of morels that were about 6" tall near the house. When I examined them they were the poisonous look a likes. So much for wishful thinking.

I used to live in Mi. I remember fondly picking Morels by the dozens in the 60's , They taste so darn good.
I had a friend who used to find them here in Va. He would never tell his secret place to go. I have ideas but that is all I have.
If someone would just point me within 5 miles of someplace I Might be able to figure a good county I could try .
My younger brother did well in Michigan this spring. :{_}:
