Ethan, his Mom and me are spending the weekend on board the Yorktown. I spent three and a half years in the Navy and this is the most time I have spent on a ship. New respect for the men and women who sail the seas protecting our country. Also toured the sub Clamagore, soon to be scuttled. Last one of it's class, Guppy III class. Did not see the USS Laffey yet.

Went to see the Yorktown when my family and I were in Edisto Beach, SC last year. It will be something that we will always remember. Very impressive ship!

I still have not learned how to resize i-Phone pix for posting on host. Hengy, did you get to tour the sub and destroyer? The sub is going to be scuttled later this year in Florida.

No, we didn't get a chance to tour the sub or the destroyer. My son, Charlie (7) had a BLAST sitting on all the gun turrets and pretending to maneuver them. He loved all of the airplanes there as well. Our family's trip to Edisto Beach will go down as one of the best trips that we have ever taken. What a great time it was. Fort Sumter, Yorktown, the beach, downtown Charleston, Edisto Island plantation house peeping. What a great time for the family!!

Why are they scuttling the Sub? Are they going to replace it with another after they tow it to sea?

Mike, the outside is in really bad shape. Tap in Clamagore and read all about it. Sad.

I was able to tour the Yorktown II and the Clamagore about 10 years ago. (Close quarters gained a new meaning in the sub) Shame to lose the last example..

Toured the Yorktown several years ago. At that time the Savannah the first a maybe only nuclear powered merchant ship was on display.
