Looks like a matter of traction to me. Note also that the steamer is being operated at max boiler pressure. The safety valve is blowing steam whenever it is not pulling. Not a real smart way to operate a steam engine. Vern

Absolutely. It's all about traction as long as he has enough power. That steam tractor probably weight 2 to 3 times what the Deere does, and I don't think the wheels ever slipped! It even pulled him out of the loose dirt in the ruts!
