Automotive rust proofing

What are ya'll using as a automotive rust proof, under body and inner body? Used to be lots of business for rust proofing but there hard to find now a days , just bought a new/used truck and need to have it rust proofed.

Up in Canada in the 80's I remember lots of service stations with signs that said under body misting , it was cheap 30 dollars, I imagine under body misting was just spraying down the under side with waste oil,can anyone shed some light on the Canadian way of rust proofing?

i use a product called fluid film, it never fully dries like under coat but it does work well. the only thing i dont like about it is that the dirt sticks to it.

I do not know about how they do it in Canada, but anyone that does the job right is really going to hate seeing a used vehicle come in, because to do a proper job they have to raise it up and spend a lot of time under there with a pressure washer cleaning off the bottom, all the nooks and crannies, etc. It makes a big mess, including on them. That part is a bigger job than the application of the under coating.

around here people are advertising it as oil undercoating for 100 dollars. it cost me around 35 or 40 dollars for a gallon.

Thanks good post and I found a you tube vid oddly enough from New Hampshire (is that you), any way I never heard of Fluid Film but my local parts place says its real good stuff and in stock so I will give it a try,,

Remember doing that to new cars when I was a teenager working at a Chevy dealership. Still have an aerosol can of "Bondo" undercoat that I was going to put on the wheel wells of a VW pickup I bought new. That was 33 years ago !

I just did this this summer on my 2002 GMC Sierra. I used a range of products from Eastwood.

I cleaned the underside thoroughly and then used one of their rust encapsulators and a top coat of bed-liner like product. Cost about $100 and my labor. If I get 5 to 7 more years out of the truck I'll be happy.

If your truck is fairly clean they will just spray over top the old stuff. Anything is better than nothing.
It is around $100 as previously stated.

There are 2 preparations that I am aware of that go on here. One is simply waste oil misted on the undercarriage and wheel wells. It is between $75.00 to $100.00 depending on where you go. The other one is a mix of liquid tar/waste oil .. costs about $25.00 more. Not sure if it is worth it. My '99 and my '00 both had a Ziebart type coating and the undercarts are still in great shape. Only place where I had difficulties really was the rocker panels and that is simply a function of the body style. On our Honda .. it is an electronic rust inhibitor system.
