Driveway alarms

Postby Mr E » Fri Aug 23, 2013 6:20 pm

Do any of you have any experience with driveway alarms? I want to get one, but I want a really good one. Need at least 2 sensors for 2 drives, and would like for it to support 2 receivers so I can put on in the house and one in the shop. Any advice / suggestions much appreciated

Got one from HF on sale. Used it to watch front door. Was sensitive and annoying enough to irritate wifey. On sale about $14.00.

Probably should have added some more info. Would like the sensor to be able to communicate wirelessly from approx. 200 ft and 400 ft. respectively.

I would be curious to Roy, folks always seem to think that my driveway is a public street and they like to take a drive up the road. Liability issues.

Why not just go with the original, Milton. They still make versions of the original "Driveway Signal" with the bell or a chime. They are more expensive than what Harbor Fright might sell, but they are quality and made in America. I have 2, one original and one of their new ones. You can click on the link below for a catalog page of their driveway signals, the other link is a website that sells the complete kits and parts.

Rudi, do you have a sign at the end of your drive? Private drives here are marked on city street signs. Also I know of at least two other drives that have sign that state: "If you don't have any business here, this is a good place to turn around!"

The end of our driveway/entrance road is not visible from our house. After many unexpected guest/snooping people and some break-ends, my wife insisted on an alarm to alert her on someone coming in. I had to buy a very expensive one because of the distance and at this time I can't find the brand name…I’ll have to go out and take the cover off the box to get the companies name. It works very well and does what it should not only with humans but with animals too. Deer and cattle will keep you going during the night.

I had my Backhoe setting close to the road coming into my place putting in a cattle guard and late one night the alarm was going off continuously. Thinking it was animals doing it; I turned on the outside lights and shot a 12 gauge into the air to scare them off. This rest of the night the alarm was silent, but the next morning when I return to finish the cattle guard job I found out the Backhoe was tampered with.

After all the previous attempts of robberies, now we have the original alarm, a video system with motion lights, a dog and my wife keeps a 30/30 and a shot gun close to her when I’m away.

NorthernTool.com has several drive way alert systems listed. Not that expensive and transmitter range would appear to be suitable for your use.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Signs don't mean anything to people these days. It is unlikely that they see them, let alone read them. And on the off chance that they do, the assumption is made that they are among the privileged class and those silly rules don't apply to them. It's merely a matter of respect, and respect doesn't exist anymore.

Just put up a sign: "Please do not feed the croc, gator, phiranna, etc." did you hear the one about the farmer finding young female skinny dippers in his pond? He said " don't mind me, I just came to feed the alligators! Old age and cunning win over youthful exuberance every time!
