The Shed of Doom

Postby Dennis » Fri Aug 16, 2013 6:23 pm

OK, this is just to funny not to share. The Shed of Doom or How Not To Build a Shed.

Beware, some of this is PG13 and maybe some R stuff thrown in.

I had to give up after 13 pages .. couldn't take the pain anymore .. nor the embarrassment .. the language on that forum is atrocious. Well, kinda makes sense - it is after all LaLaLandoftheNorth :big give up:

Here is a short time lapse video of the master craftsman at work. I consider this an 8th wonder of the world since it is still standing.

Where I live, between OSHA and the building inspectors, this would have never made it this far.

Too bad this guy is up in British Columbia. I'm sure some U.S. forum members would like him to build them a nice Cub-house.

It is interesting to see how much his car raises as he removes each sheet of plywood.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Hi Dennis,
Being a former carpenter, I just could not believe my eyes as I watched the video and saw the pics of this monstrosity. Will someone please tell this guy to stop before he creates a Frankenstein out of timber  It might be funny if it were not such a sad waste of good timber. I am emotionally disturbed, after seeing this, This guy should come with a government health warning :?

There is a You-Tube of the finished building. Doesn't look bad from a distance.

Snow load? No foundation, wonder where the building will end up in the next high wind.

Considering the money involved in material purchase, would have been cheaper to hire a contractor to build a solid structure.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Be wary of offers to "store" cubs. They just might get stored in this guy's barn.

Reminds me of a chickencoop of mine I wanted to move. It looked basically solid although I did not really look too closely at the actual construction. It did well at keeping the chickens dry. I lifted one end with my dozer, placed a 1/2 inch steel cable through the end floor joists, placed two large steel rollers at the two corners. My plan was to lift one end of the building with the dozer and steel cables and pull the building on the rollers. Worked great for 3 feet then the whole coop split in half. The floor was nailed all in seams rather than staggering the joints. It looked like it came apart first at one of the floor seams and then the walls, the roof, ect..

I did eventially get it moved in sections and put back together. The 2 foot centers varies up to 2 1/2 foot, the peak of the roof was off center by over 1 foot, and many other interesting findings. I just saw a photo online of the PO of my house and the builder of the coop. 5 years for Meth disto.
