Airborne Semi

Postby Barnyard » Sat Aug 03, 2013 10:07 pm

This link shows a spectacular crash of a semi on I-74 Thursday afternoon. Rosie and I went through this stretch of highway on our way home with a Cub about an hour before the wreck.

I have seen that plus read several comments about it. Supposedly he tried to avoid a car that cut across in front of him, but some of the professional drivers seemed to suspect he may have gone to sleep instead. The good thing is that both he and his 10 year old son who was riding with him both escaped with minor scrapes and bruises. It appears that the trailer bursts into flames, and one news channel reported that, but the pros viewing it said that his truck bottomed and the tanks were torn off and burst into flame. One of the drivers posting stated that the new low sulfur diesel was worse about flaming up than the old diesel. several of the drivers posting made comments about the fact that the load was well tied down and stayed put during the entire episode.

John:

That is what it looked like to me the first time I looked at it. Had to back it up and look at it again .. I couldn't believe that a tractor trailer could fly like that. Blew me away

Dan:

Most of the accident was captured in the video including where the semi ended up. This link has some post flight video and commentary - Semi goes airborne on I-74 near Greensburg, bursts into flames
