OK, I've been lurking, studying, absorbing, and figuring out long enough. Time to participate! I feel like I know several of you already and since he has photographic evidence previously posted (along with wanting to split my cub just to get a better look at the throw out bearing) yes I do know John *.?-!.* cub owner. Also, since he gave me my Cub as a birthday present "Rabbit Holler Flash" is my brother.

If I've got the picture thing figured out then there should be a picture of a gear shift knob I saw at the Owensville Threshers Show in Rosebud, MO weekend before last. I thought someone may want to fancy up their cub.


And at the same show a nice comparison of a Cub and an H Hi-Clearance. Their was a sign that said something like 880 were made.

My pictures still show up in the original post along with one of me and Rabbit Holler Flash from EJP where we had my cub split for a PTO repair. Rather than start a new post I jumped into an existing one started by "Tucker" up in Vermont. His chains are still the "baddest" looking anywhere. Don McCombs was the 1st Responder to my post. Quite a few of the folks are still active on the forum however George Willer has passed on.

Just finished shoveling the 11" of snow here in Stafford, CT the old fashioned way (shovel) as I mournfully looked at my 57 Cub in the garage. All I got was stuck when I tried to use it. I have a paved driveway and the ag tires just spun around, even with front and rear wheel weights. Looked at all the info in this string and still can't figure out what type of chains I should get. Besides the chains, what else will I need to complete the install?

First time to post, first time to own a Cub (or any tractor).

I was biten by the tractor bug about 2 years ago; going to my first tractor show did it. Kept talking about it, making references to it, and little comments while out driving around, "Look at that tractor!" You know...

Well, my loving wife and my daughter surprised me for Father's Day/Birthday by buying me a 1947 Farmall Cub (serial #2116). Here's a pic:


Everything appears to work fine, just has a few leaking gaskets and belching blue smoke out the exhaust.

Question: Are the gasket sets sold through TM and others worth purchasing or is it better to purchase individual gaskets as/where needed?

My "second post"...I guess my first, since it was February of 2003 is long gone...

Just wanted to finally take a minute and step in and introduce myself. I joined this forum in February of 2003 and made one post. I was asking for help looking for my grandfathers '51 Cub. Well five years have passed and I never did find it, had a few leads, but it never panned out.

I've always checked in on the forum and have learned alot from some of you over the years. I was always reluctant to jump in to a discussion, or express my opinion since I technically wasn't an IH owner...even though I really wanted to be. So I've kinda kept pluggin' along, tinkering with my old JD garden tractors, reading and learning all I could about Cub's, H's and M's. I really have a great fondness for Cubs, but I knew in my heart that what I've wanted for almost 20 years was an "M". Over the last few years I've met some great people and gained one really good friend down in North Carolina that have encouraged my interest in Farmalls. Here in southern West Virginia, tractor shows are unheard of, so we frequent NC alot, going to shows and rides. Some of those guys and gals at IHCC Chapter 37 are kind enough to always let us park our little green ones with their little yellow ones and big red ones. After all, it's about preserving history and appreciating the machines that made this country in the greatest agriculture giant in history...they helped us feed the world. Yeah I know...kinda sappy. But that's the way I feel, they all have a story to tell and deserve to be took care of...

Well on September 20th we purchased a 1951 Farmall "M" that I've had my eye on for a few years, we hauled it home on the 22nd and Tuesday night I got the ol' girl running. I'll post some more details on the Letter Series forum. I know this is a Cub forum, but some of you own Letter series tractors as well. You all seem to get along better than some other forums and seem to offer better information. To that regard I just wanted to thank all of you for your behind the scenes help over the years and I hope I'll become a more productive member in time to come. Sorry for the long second post...I've been holdin' back for almost six years...
