Today our Manufacturing Manager and I spent about 4 hours walking around the former Hess Industries buildings looking at the equipment that will be auctioned off tomorrow. I was there to suggest to him what I felt we needed to purchase for my new place of employment, Manufacturing Technology Inc., for the shop floor. I've been at MTI for about 1 1/2 years now. I was at Hess for 23 years and knew the equipment well. We were not after any of the big machine tools because our owners don't want a machine shop. There is an abundance of smaller equipment like pipe threaders, welders, tubing benders, CMM's, saws, bearing heaters the list goes on and on. We need many of these tools at MTI.
The auction starts at 9:00 AM and they hope to end by 9:00-10:00 PM. I need to be at work tomorrow but plan on dropping by after work to see how things are going and meet up with many former Hess employees that I'm sure will be there. Oh yeah, I got my bid number today.

Rick:
I have been to a couple of auctions from former places of work years ago.. it is an eerie feeling to see things so familiar being sold off to the highest bidder. I can only imagine what it feels like to see a 1/4 century worth of stuff you saw everyday going under the hammer.
Hope you are successful in obtaining a couple items for yourself.
