If anyone is interested in outback adventure with some crazy Alaskans, you can watch my step-brother (Marty Raney) and his son (Matt) on Natgeo this Sunday evening.
More info here: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/c ... al-alaska/

Marty was always a one tough little kid when I knew him and I'm betting on him finishing this quest.

Dennis,

He certainly is interesting, at least in his attempt to cross the river.

This is the kind of stuff that interests both Em and I from our passion for rock hounding to my experiences living in the High Arctic in the McKenzie Delta and the Top of the World on Ellesmere Island. We enjoy watching anything that has to do with Alaska and Northern Canada .. if it is above the Arctic Circle then I gotta watch it.

Dennis, you just added an element to our Sunday evening - we now have someone to root for.

I hope Marty and Matt know that some of us are watching and rootin' :D

Interesting program. Not so sure I could pick out and eat berries left in bear scat. Noticed the Raney's didn't eat any.

I don't blame them. I don't think they will get hungry enough to do that and the guy that ate it, looked like he was trying to go all "Bear Grylls" on it.

Marty said the cameramen that went with them were the most shocked on the trip... he doesn't think they "really" knew what they were getting themselves into -- I can believe it.

Now, after seeing that nice little nugget he panned from the river after a few minutes, I'm sure there will be some prospectors chartering planes soon ;)

I think the contestants had the easier go of it than the camera crew. Camera crew had to carry camera equipment and guessing they also had to carry camping gear and food.

I wouldn't have eaten the live, whole, small frog either. And I like frog legs.

When was the series filmed? Usually the contest/series is complete before any episodes are shown.

It was filmed last fall (2012). The cameraman are amazing on these outdoor reality shows -- some day someone will figure out that a reality show about reality cameramen would be a good "reality show" :)
