Old cars

Can anyone tell what kind of cars these are. I thought my Dad had told me "Cord" but none of the Cord pictures I have found look like these two cars. I"m pretty sure they are the same make but are either different years or models. In the first picture the one on the right was my Dad's. The pictures were developed in Feb. 42.

My book only goes back to 1939 so I'd say they are from before that time. It is hard to make out but the hood ornament almost looks like they could be a Packard.

2 different grill styles (one vertical the other horizontal) makes me think they are different car companies.

I could be totally off base on this. But I'm leaning strongly towards Buicks. I believe '37s had grills with horizontal bars and '36s had vertical bars.

Fenders don't look right. These sweep into the running board and the Buicks are squared off with a vertical drop at the rear of the front fender. Grille shape on the 36 does not match either.

Jim; I had thought maybe Buick but most of the pictures I've found the center of the grill is wider and has both chrome and paint. Also most of what we now call GM family cars, the front fenders seem to be wider at the back. This could just be the difference in perspective of the pictures though.

Bill: I had checked Packard also but the pictures I've found aren't the same either. I kind of thought the hood ornament kind of looked like a Pontiac but no luck there either.

The shape of the side panel just below the exhaust reminds me of the shape seen in later model Olds., but I don't see that shape in any of the 30's Olds. pictures.

I'm going to check some more on the Auburn yet as I think they had a similar hood ornament.

Cords, and maybe Auburns, were known for those exhaust tubes like the one on the right...and they look enough alike to make you think they are from the same company, but different years, models, or options....

No doubt they are from the 30's. I do not have time at the moment, but using Google, search for 1935 Cord, then 1936 Cord, etc., and with each search result look at some of the photos at the links found. One of the cars reminds me of Buick or Oldsmobile. The hood side pipes are not original to any GM product that I have seen. But perhaps they were a non-functioning accessory. Notice the headlight visors? Virtually certain to be an aftermarket accessory. But I see no foxtail.

Thanks everyone for the help. I've checked all suggestions before I posted the pictures with no real luck. Some I've checked more extensively already and I'm going to check some of the others closer. It seems when I get a picture that's close in one area, some other area is completely different.

I don't remember for sure but I think Dad had said that the pipes weren't functional.

The one thing I've not found in any picture is the raised area on the side panels just below the pipes.

I'm sure they are the same make of car, just as said maybe different years, models or extras.
