Nuf Firewood?

bear asked this question a while ago, when do u have enuf firewood? but I didn't have any pictures of our little winter wood project.

Now I do so .... Is this enough

After we filled the wood room we had a little over 4 cords roughly left still split and stacked from last year - it will be going in the basement first thing in the spring when it is dry enough to come inside. Bruce cut and hauled the 4 foot for me from up in our wood lot. Thinned some, cleaned up fallen trees and took out those ones that were close to falling down. Nice to be able to have this stuff in your back yard



The two rows of 4 foot worked out to 11 long cords and when cut and split ended up as 11 short/face/full cords after it was all said and done.





Ellie handled 95% of the splitting chores. However we had a lot of Elm about 3 cords that was simply too hard for Ellie to split. We rented a 30 ton splitter and it had a hard time but it got done. Ellie did manage to split most of the really big Spruce, Pine and Popple though. It was really enjoyable and gave me a lot of exercise





I don't have pics loaded yet of all the fun we had at the wood party but I do have a couple from my berry. It was well after 7pm when the pic was taken so it was getting dark but the project got done . This is what is left of all the above wood after it was cut, split and piled. Somewhere in the neighbourhood of 15 cords or so all split and stacked out behind the pole barn. My buddy Leo came over to help and my daughter Sabrina brought a few of her friends from St. John - Conrad, Sally and Gordon and brought my son Duane home with her. Could not have gotten this done that weekend without all the wonderful help that these folks provided. Made some friends (Sally's Mom is now Samantha's room mate in the Moncton Hospital), funny how things happen.



This is where the rest of it went. My wood room is 12 x 14 which allows for essentially 9 rows 16" wide by 12' long by 8'-4" +/- high.





The bin on the left hand side below is 4'x4'x8' inside and holds a full cord of off-cuts from both the saw table and my wood shop. It serves as my kindling bin. It usually is either completely full or 3/4 to 7/8's full any given year.





A total of approximately 10 cords in the basement. This should be enough for the winter

Not that I have seen, but probably. The ground hogs like the stacks though

The only snakes in Canada, are wearing fur coats, so its hard to tell if its a snake, rat,or woodchuck. Weasels and minks, being long and thin, often are mistaken for furry snakes! Ed

Rudi as you well know there is no better heat than wood when you get warm sitting by a wood stove you are warm all over last winter i went out for breakfast i had built a fire in the shop before leaving i returned about nine thirty it was about 75 degress in the shop i have an old recliner in my shop i couldn't resist i leaned back in the recliner when i awoke it was eleven thirty.time for lunch.

You are right on the money. I love my wood heat - it is moist/warm/aromatic and mixes so well with the aroma therapy Em provides on a daily basis as she makes all the good things we love to eat. Only thing that could make it better is if we could put our wood kitchen stove in the house - then it would be perfect

Funny We do have some mink and weasel around here though. See them occasionally.
