When the heater motor quit working in my Rabbit pickup, I found that Rain-X windshield washer fluid saved the day. Ice melting plus water beading. Still using it today in the S-10.

Could have used that in my 1966 Scout. Anemic heater, vacuum wipers, and if I taped up all the vents except the one in front of the driver, I could get a reliable softball sized patch of defrosted windshield in an ice storm.
