Over the next week, local schools and churches from Oxford County (ON)are hoping to fill an 18-wheeler with winter coats & warm socks, blankets & baby food, hygiene supplies & cleaning goods, disinfectants & non-perishables goods. Organization of this 'help drive' is being handled by the local Salvation Army's in Woodstock, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg Ontario.
Verspeeten Cartage will be the free-of-charge hauler (for the near 1000 mile journey), of these badly needed goods. It will help those folks caught in the wake of Hurricane Sandy down in Middlesex County, New Jersey.
Let's hear about other 'help drives' in your area.

Wow that's amazing, sure is nice you're helping from 1000 miles away. As for me some co-workers go down there and we bring stuff in to work and they bring it down. We're 200 miles from NYC but no matter how many miles, it is an amazing outpouring of good will.

Sounds pretty good and I hope the group is successful. We have a drive here spearheaded by a lady in Salsbury doing much the same thing - also going to New Jersey. Nice to see folks being socially active in a positive manner :D

A furniture store here, did the collecting, and a trucking company donated the delivery. Ed

We have sent several trucks of food, clothes and supplies from here. Also some area civic groups have sent manpower down to lend a hand. Too bad it takes a tragedy to get people to help one another. It does make you feel good to see it all working though.

NB Power sent a number of line crews to New Hampshire I think and maybe CT as well. Seems that the power companies on the east coast above and below the 49th are more than willing to help each other out. It is something that I really like, I am proud that NB Power does that and I am thankful that the other utilities also do this. Real neighbours and that is important. I don't mind paying a bit more on my monthly bill to support operations such as that - it is the right thing to do :!: :D

I have been unloading some of the trucks sent by Masons all over the country here on Staten Island as well as using my pick up to deliver same. Some of our local regular food banks had no deliveries for a few days because of the storm and some of the stuff diverted to help storm victims. It has pretty much straightened out the past few days though. At my Episcopal church there have been deliveries from all over the eastern sea board too the the PU has been put to use for too.
