Re: check in for Northeast cubbers
We were with out power Sunday at 9:00 PM. I said to Bev God must want us to go to bed and we did. Electric came back on about 5:00 Am today. We are lucky for NYC water comes from the mountains. Fortunately water is one of the things to run down hill so we had that. With a natural gas water hot showers were available much to Bev,s pleasure. We had friends with electric water heaters in to help the new showers installed while we were at Kodiak's. and then vacation. We have an oddball gas furnace that doesn't need electricity to run. The micro-voltage from the thermocouple operates the gas valve through a special thermostat. We have no circulator but thermo-siphon as in a Cub does the job quite well. The stove has electronic ignition but a match handles that. The electronic control for the oven defied running manual so Bev roasted the chicken on the barbeque last evening.
Much of the rest of Staten Island is a complete disaster. It seems as if every other tree that fell brought down a pole with a transformer on it. We heard many of them popping around us. Bev asked is some fool setting off fire crackers, ther were so many.

How long has he owned the van? Here (last time I checked) we had 30 days to notify the insurance company. In the meanwhile, the newly purchased vahicle has the same coverage as your best covered auto. He needs to check with his agent.
you were right. He is covered under the grace period.

We never lost power. No tree damage. Some of the roof on the milk house got ripped off, and the alcove off the main barn where I store the combine the back part of it was damaged where the roof didn't want to give up and took the back beam like a sail with it. No equipment damage. All is well.

Got power back here last night. Between my house and my fathers I have a couple of years worth of firewood. My niece lost her car to a tree.

I read this, then looked at where you are located (Branchville, NJ) and thought it was - fitting, or ironic or funny (can't think of the proper word)
Anyhow glad you are all safe.

Branchville was originaly named for all the train branch lines that met there. Even had a roundtable for the engines. Not one train line left now.

Monroe, Ct, we lost power 6:30pm Monday, no loss of life, several houses destroyed by falling trees, many others damaged, many, many trees down; we got power back Friday night, no serious damage to our property. Hope thats it for nasty weather for a while.
Hope everyone else is well.
