Re: Sandy..... Almost a miss
I am glad that y'all are safe and that Sandy doesn't do too much damage. It is still fine here - we are expecting Sandy to start affecting us in the Maritimes by tomorrow or Wednesday.
The server unfortunately is already a casualty - it is down. I think it is power failure related but don't know for sure.
Gary, it is sad to see that a couple of your tractors were damaged. I do hope you can get them under stronger cover soon. I just managed to get the 3rd Cub into the pole barn yesterday.

Pine tree came down across private road behind us, took down power lines and destroyed the chicken pen fence. Coop and shed OK. Pictures in the morning.

Re: Sandy..... Almost a miss
I am on pretty high ground.... Although within a mile from the ocean, the coastline is a cliff (AKA Cliff Walk) so it would take quite a surge to get near me.
The wind was busy for a while and when talking to my neighbor a tree fell on her car, the good thing is the wires to the house are supporting most of the weight
My only big tree leafed out in the spring and then all the leaves fell off the tallest branch. Had a very impressive crew take it down a month ago. Crane and a chipper are great tools! Sure glad I didn't put that off.
Gonna get that generator working one day.... but Cubs seem to take priority in my garage!
Must be getting old, took a nap instead of my usual trek to watch the sea churn. It is something to see!

About 4-5 inches of snow on the ground at this point. Thunder and lightning. Power went out about 2245. Generator is purring along just fine. Time to hit the sack.

The Lo Boy SMV sign was down... zip tie was a temporary thing anyway. The plastic alligator has stayed put!

Re: Sandy..... Almost a miss
We escaped the brunt of this one, we did have some 50 + wind gusts, and lost some shingles off the shop roof. Trees down and scattered power outages. Feeling very luck in this part of the state. Back to work today.

My neighbor had 2 huge pine trees fall on his van, enclosed trailer and shed. The trees were on the west side of a 10 acre hay lot and had plenty of fetch.

So do I ...the piney borer Beatles are taking them out at a pretty good clip......sort of bitter sweet....I have to pay to get them cut down after they die ...but I am always glad when they are gone.

Re: Sandy..... Almost a miss
They really over-hyped the severity of the storm here. Compared to down East, we got nothing. Just high winds howling for most of the night. I lost power for about a minute around 6:30PM or so.
Heard a couple of big things come crashing down outside, but couldn't see anything obvious this morning. Going to have to take a closer look when I get home from work.

Not crazy bad here in Eastern PA either. Some high winds(but not as high as I expected. Power has been out since 8:30 last night.
One of my neighbors/friends had a big tree fall on his house, though. And this morning he was on the roof trying to do something with it, and he fell off. He is at the hospital now-he was able to walk to the ambulance, so I hope his injuries are not too bad.

Is that your car
Kind of weird, I am trying to get as many red and white pines growing on my property and y'all don't like em. They are great for lumber and if you have enough acreage with Pines on it, it would be worthwhile to check in with harvesters and gain some coin from the Pines. It is a high value material in both the construction industry and the cabinet/furniture industry. Ponderosa Pines are even higher value along with Yellow Pine.
Andy, I hope your neighbour is going to recover without any lingering damage. Falling off of a roof ain't no fun - ask me, btdt, the last time was 4 years ago when the ladder collapsed
