I took my son to the range we fired the 1902 Colt 38 and the M1911 neither of these guns has been fired in at least 60 years we put a 120 rounds through the M1911 and a scant 9 through the 1902, through 1902 to shoots and obsolete round that is 50 dollars for 40 rounds so were going to check in to reloading as a way of keeping the 1902 active , both these guns are old the 1902 is a 104 years old and is the predecessor to the M1911, my M1911 is 97 years old and was my Grandfathers WWI military issue that he brought back from France it really is fun shooting these old guns they have alot of history to them..

Heres a couple of the M1911, check the condition of the M1911 as opposed to the 1902 the 1902 was bought new by my Great Grandfather and always kept in the house the M1911 on the other hand was in a trench in France for a solid year then my Grandfather Some how got to keep it but for some reason he never took care of it it was always in a tool box in the barn until my Dad got it in the 70's I don't know where the damage came from could have been France or the neglect of 50 years in a tool box

Jack , that is an nice example of a 1902. Very nice..

I have quite a few rifles and pistols, from .22 to a .300 Ultra mag.
I have even made a couple of trips from Va to the Whittington Center in New Mexico to enjoy the shooting facilities and the scenery.
I love long range shooting and there are very few places to be able to shoot to 600 yards and beyond.
I highly recommend attending an Appleseed Shoot if you get the chance http://www.appleseedinfo.org.
They have the best rifle marksmanship program going, and you learn a little history in the process.
There is nothing more satisfying than to hit the target at 600 yards with a 20 mile an hour wind!

The last time I shot at 600 yards was Camp Pendleton during boot camp in 1969. I'm not sure I can see that far now.

.38 acp , an obsolete round yet available via mail order but pricey , the 1911 ammo is available at Wal mart ...

Here is my newest , its a Smith & Wesson model 586 , 357 revolver with a six inch barrel, I think its a 1982 version, going to the range Saturday to shoot some paper

Very nice!!!! We shoot 357 Rugers in our Cowboy matches. Shooting the 38 Special in the 357 gun is much cheaper and works great in our Cowboy Shooting. But that is one beautiful gun!!!

Going to try the Cowboy matches some day, it seems to be kinda popular, I am new to the 357 so going to shot magnums a first just for the kick I love the old school guns one day a Python will be along side the Smith .

Participated in my first Cowboy Shoot over Memorial Day weekend. My brother is big into cowboy shoots. Went to the annual Shady Creek Shootist match at Milan Il. Had a good time and did ok for learning to shoot left handed. Had a pacemaker put in in Feb so decided to learn to shoot left handed. If you like shooting try to attend a cowboy shoot they are interesting.

Rodney, that's great!!! Hope you keep it up. We shot today in 95+ temperature and had a ball. Annie & I both shoot. Hopefully we can get up your way sometime and shoot with you. Some of you might remember my kid, or at least the red hair! He has been to 2 Tugs, 2 Central Indiana CubFests, and a DocFest, although its been a few years ago. He has just finished jr high, getting ready for high school. He's finishing up his second year of trapshooting for the school team.



When he first started 2 years ago, the scores weren't great, but he's practiced hard and shot a BUNCH. This summer he's been on a roll, starting in May when he ran his first 100 straight. It was at a pretty large shoot and he won a real nice Shamrock leather shooting bag.



Earlier this month, we went to Indianapolis for the Indiana State Shoot and he won an event. This one earned his first ATA All-American points!



Also, he has taken 5 shots at deer with his hunting shotgun and has put 4 deer in the freezer.

I don't shoot much anymore. As much as he shoots I can't afford to!!

My congratulations to your son, Trent.

Local shooter was on the USA Olympic shooting team. Scholarship to US military academy, and then on the Academies shooting team.
