High Mileage?

Postby batty54 » Sat Feb 02, 2008 3:02 pm

I saw this story and thought someone here might like it too. I thought my 1977 C-10 was going good after 23 years but only 180,000 miles on her.

Man's '91 Chevy nears million-mile mark

Associated Press

February 1, 2008

MEDFORD, Wis. - Frank Oresnik is on the verge of making history driving his old standby — the pickup truck he says is about to pass the 1 million mile mark.

Oresnik took the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado to the Oil Ex-Change Quick Lube in Medford on Thursday for what he expects will be its last oil change and tuneup before hitting the magic number.

He said the truck is 1,200 miles from a million, and once he hits the mark he will retire the vehicle.

"I feel almost like the longtime NFL player as he goes into his last training camp knowing this is the end," Oresnik said.

He credits proper maintenance and a good measure of luck for allowing the truck to rack up so many miles. He said he's had more than 300 oil changes and tuneups at the Medford business, going in every 3,000 miles.

The truck has had four radiators, three gas tanks, five transmissions and six water pumps, but the engine has never been overhauled, Oresnik said.

He bought the Silverado in June 1996 after the original owner put 41,000 miles on it. Oresnik uses the vehicle to deliver seafood in three states, putting on about 85,000 miles a year.

My 1985 Electra Glide has about 335,000 miles on it.I don't ride like I used to though. The tractors and gardens make my life a lot safer now.I put all but the first 100 miles on it.Can't say the engine has never been apart.2 major re-builds[1 was a bad rebuild] and now has a HD remanufacturd motor.I puts lots of parts on this bike[to fix it].Would have liked to put more on it but lost my wild side i think.  I like going 6 mph now!!!!Kevin

My 1988 snowmobile has 11,000 miles. That is getting up there in mileage for a snowmobile to still be in 1 piece and running great! 8)

5 years ago I gave away my/our 1989 Ford Ranger extended cab with 209,000 miles on it when I got a company vehicle (2003 F150). The Ranger had a 5-speed Mazda tranny. At the time I got rid of it, I had just put on the 3rd set of tires, never had or needed a front end alignment, and was still using the original clutch, though it was starting to slip a little going into 2nd gear. The body was still in great shape with very little rust showing.
