Blackeyed Peas "yucky" and Cabbage "yummy" is all I ever remember having , even back to living with my grandmother in the 60's

Started out travelling to the inlaws with a great Bluegrass CD...
We feasted on the following: Chicken or roasted pork with a choice of light apple/bbq sauce dusted with brown sugar or hotsauce, sauer kraut, turnip greens, blackeyed peas (with bacon thrown in for the fixin), mac n cheese, cornbread, slaw, 'n SWEET tea!
Dessert was a modified German Chocolate or Coconut cake... If you're gonna bring it in, bring it in GOOD!
Can't wait to get home for dinner...

Had pork, sauerkraut and keilbassa with mashed taters on new years, too at my parent's in Pittsburgh. Dad said the pork was because a pig always runs forward, and you are running forward into the new year... I don't know it that is hogwash or not, but the story worked for me! Really good pork IN the sauerkraut...got nice and tender!
