THanks Dave

Why not describe your problem to the folks at Boston Gear? They probably have a few people who know exactly what you need. :D

This is true and I was going to try and talk to someone that could help me. I just wanted to get some more info before I called up and asked questions with out any information to offer them so that they can help me.

However I did talk to a local machinist about making me a set of gears. Brought him the dimentions and then as we were talking he remembered that his lathe had spare gears and looked at them. They have the same pitch as the ones needed and they are the right tooth count. So I got the part number and called MSC and ordered the gears as a hope they would work. Well I got them in the mail today one was $38.00 and the other a wopping $1.88. They both have a shoulder that needs to be taken off, as a matter a fact I did that tonight with the lathe. Now all I need to do is make a bushing for them to fit the smaller shaft. I lined the gears up and everything looks like it will fit fine once I get the bushing made and into place.

I admit that once this is done this would be the cheapest part of the whole thing. I have been looking at things that I would like to get for the lathe and I am well over the purchase price by at least 2 times.

Again thanks for all of the replys as they all help point me in the right direction.
