I was wondering if anybody has any experience with a freight company that ships palletized items. Is it terminal to terminal delivery? Expensive as compared to UPS or FEDEX?

Harold:
When my Dad passed, I had to ship a bunch of stuff.. all on a pallet. I called the local shipping company back home in Timmins, and had them palletize my shipment. Including wrapping, strapping, loading and shipping as well as loading onto my trailer here in Moncton.. this is a distance of well over 1400 miles.. it cost me $80.00 +/- to ship 500lbs of palletized stuff. Took less than 5 days. They typically load it onto trucks that are short a full load.. so the costs are spread out. Also, you may have to wait a day or two for the shipment to go depending on space available in a trailer.
So yup much cheaper than UPS or FedEX. those guys are specialists in overnight and courier based services and you pay a premium. Yellow Freight or Consolidated etc., might be a better option for palletized shipments.

A locla implement dealer/salvage operation (Rippee Tractor) uses FED-EX freight. He says they give him the best deal, but also he gets a quantity discount. Is there any chance you may know someone in the area that gets a discount that will ship for you?

I hear that Continental Airlines has cheap freight rates if you can qualify the stuff as carry-on luggage!

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

HR,
Your options that I know of for LTL freight companys are Roadway Express, Yellow Freight, ABF, UPS Freight, Fed Ex Freight, and a few smaller that I'm not to familiar with(Vitran, Wards, Connection, etc.). I work at the local Roadway Express terminal in Zanesville and have shipped several sets of ground implements over the years (cultivators, planters). I have always shipped terminal to terminal as this is the cheapest. Call each company for a shipping quote and you'll be charged per weight, class of freight, and destination. Good Luck!
Rudi, did you ship Reimer for your dads things? That is Roadways canadian branch.

Chris:
I imagine Reimer may have had a part to play as in terminal faciilities possibly, but it was shipped via a local company in Timmins that has been there since the 1920's Star Transfer Ltd... and was received here at the Maritime-Ontario terminal.
But I am familiar with Reimer..

It's a buzz saw.......rekon it'd fit in the overhead bin??
I have checked the rates on a few web sites and it seems to be running around $400 to ship a buzz saw from northern michigan to my local terminal. It's the one on ebay now. Add in the possible purchase price, and I have discovered how bad I really DON'T need one.

Wait a minute!! I just looked at the saw again on ebay, and now they are posting a picture of a similar saw in use. Does the arm in that picture belong to anyone we know?????? Not to mention the backside???

I seem to remember seeing that picture from either a CubFest or Cub-a-Rama....
Harold.. how much does it way broken down? It should be broken down and packaged pretty flat. That way it takes up less space. In fact if it was crated, it would be even better as it could then be palletized easier and fit in a much broader range of load scenarios which should make it cheaper.
Also.. this sounds like it could be an ideal candidate for the Farmall Cub Pony Express yes?????
Anybody close enough to it who could pick it up and store it for a bit until a delivery program could be put in place????
Also, it appears that this particular item is also listed by one of our newer members on the For Sale/Wanted Forum Farmall Cub Buzz saw. This should be a do-able Pony Express Job.. member to member..

PWL and several others have those saws. Because of Phil's experience with an internal coupling missing (which he was later able to find) I sent an inquiry to the seller this morning. Since he hasn't answered I assume the coupling is missing. Without it the saw is worthless for cutting firewood. IMHO. It might still be good to hang on a trailer queen just for show.
