I tend to try to stay away from political issues on this board, but this one struck a nerve with me. You decide for yourself.

Don, a few months ago our lawmakers passed a law that says that won't happen again and gave back the guns of everyone they could find. If anyone is still missing their gun they can go get it. The reason for the law is to make sure citizens has the means to protect themselves.

I realize this is a sticky subject and i don't see the need for the assault weapons that are now on our streets i am a hunter and a member of the NRA i can't understand why the goverment don't enforce the laws against the criminals and leave the law abiding citizen alone.

I agree to a certain point. I also believe that the way the 2nd amendment is written, anyone protected by the Constitution is entitled to own "ANY" arms he/she wants to own. That includes anything from bobby pins to nuclear weapons and anything in between. There is approximately 20,000 gun laws on the books in the USA and I believe each and every one, bar none, is illegal. I don't have any use for anything above a hand gun and don't pay ant attention to the laws concerning guns. If I'm in church in New York City or a hip hop house in San Francisco or riding in a funeral procession, I can reach my piece. I don't fly any more for two reasons. One is I can't smoke and the 2nd is I can't take my piece on the plane.

I don't own a firearm, and probably never will again....note that at one time I had several......

That being the case, however, it is foolish to believe that any measure of gun control legislation is either morally or constitutionally correct.

Our founding fathers were not complete idiots. The reason for the second amendment was plain enough.....should there come a time, god forbid, when our government (at any level) becomes so corrupt and degenerate that it no longer functions, it may become necessary to use force to remove it from power. They knew it then, and I know it now.

The founding fathers built a system of checks and balances into our government. Three branches, each to check the other, and finally, if the whole thing goes to hell, an armed public to deal with. Revolt is a somewhat legal part of the American system. It can be done constitutionally, if it had to be.

Any man whose conscience allows him to own or carry a firearm, for protection against crime, violence, or tyranny, should certainly do so!!!

And yes, even if that makes one technically a criminal. One's convictions should always come before the law. If they don't, you are a mindless minion of the people in power, no matter how wrong they may be.

The right to own and carry firearms is very important to this non-gun owner!!!

Thomas Jefferson thought there should be a constitutional convention each generation. Our politicians are so in love with their jpbs and so afraid of the general public that they oppose initiatives and constitutional conventions. Personally I like both. We are going to vote on proposition 423 here in Nebraska which puts a lid on state spending but allows for growth based on inflation, population etc. I am amazed at the vehemence of the opposition and false spin they are putting on 423.
