Happy Thanksgiving
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Thanksgiving:
Well Thanksgiving is rather very similar to the same celebration south of the 49th. As is common to both our countries, this is the time of year set aside to give Thanks to God for providing us with another bountiful harvest. Some years are better than others, but that is the way the world turns. Also, it is a day for us to give thanks to Him for keeping us all together. Unfortunately, our son Duane had to work, so he was not able to be with us this year. That was the one down side.
We have much the same heritages we two nations, and therefore, much of our traditions are the same or similar. For many of us much the same fare is enjoyed as is done Stateside. For example this year the menu consisted of:
Mashed Potato's, Sweet Squash, Carrots and Parsnips accompanied by a smallish Meat King (11.2 lbs thereabouts). Our friend and neighbour raises them, and we have been buying his birds since we stopped growing our own. We find the Meat Kings to be superior to Turkey as it contains less fat and is much moister. (For me with my medical history - less fat and cholesterol is muchly desired.. ). I used to like the skin, but I have gotten away from that, but I can't give up the dark meat.. and I am usually the only one who really likes it, so I get my fair share shall we say.
Along with the Roast Chicken, (oh, and up until a few years ago, it was primarily Turkey), the requisite gravy (clarified to remove the fat) with Summer Savoury -- hmmmm.. no stuffing this year.. and for desert - Pumpkin Delight. Yup, Pie Crust is off my diet too.. but I actually much prefer Emilie's Pumpkin Delight to Pumpkin Pie. Y'all really need to bug her for the recipie. It is her own, and it is awesome! Accompanied with a very nice Rhein Taffel Wein, it was a sumptuous meal.
To top it off, our daughter Amanda chose to make Thanksgiving Dinner this year, and she pulled off an awesome performance. For her first big meal, it was spectacular. I was quite stuffed, and enjoyed dinner immensely.
We forgot the cranberry sauce, but that is ok, as I get to have it whenever we make roast chicken, so it was a nice break... less sugar, let me have more Pumpkin Delight.. and that was worth it
Guys, thanks for the wishes, it was a great year I have lots to be thankful for. God has and continues to bless me and my family richly. I have a family who loves me and who I love, and we are able to be together. I have reasonably good health, and I thank God daily for that blessing. I have the very best friends anyone can have.. I have all of you, and for that I thank God deeply and sincerely, for you all have given me so much to be thankful for.
I do hope you all had a wonderful Columbus Day holiday, and I know that you will also have much to give thanks to God for when it comes time for your National day of Thanksgiving in November
Peace, God's Blessings to each and all of you and your families (+)
