Caution about eBay

Postby Bus Driver » Sat Sep 16, 2006 7:09 am

I recently bid on a significant item of shop equipment on eBay. The bidding went considerably higher than my price. After the bidding ended, I received what appeared to be a "Second-Chance" offer, a chance to buy the item for my highest bid. I have actually used that feature in the past, with good results. And it was a bargain at the price I bid. But caution is always advised. In this latest case, there were 5 bidders higher than me. No way could this seller have 6 of the item exactly as decribed. "Bought new in 2005, used only 3 times, etc.".
My checking shows that legitimate Second Chance offers will also be in the "Messages" section of your "My eBay" page. The offer was not there- an attempted scam. Be cautious.
Luck favors those who are prepared

that has become a common practice of people trying to scam you. I've had it hapen severla tiems, and had a prospective buyer contact me after receivening one on an item I sold a while back. If you are interested, go to the original auction and use the contact the seller link to verify if it is an authintic offer. If not, forward it to spoof@ebay.com
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

I had the same thing over 2 years ago stating money would come out of my pay-pal account(I didn't even buy anything ). I sent ebay the whole set-up, which they confirmed was a scam, but it's still going on today. Needless to say, I cancelled all my accounts with ebay :x

BD and All:

I know that there are a lot of horror stories out there about eBay and PayPal.. so far I have been lucky. In fact, eBay and PayPal are almost on speed dial.. as we have had a few conversations over stuff.. Also, I too have my share of spoofs pretending to be official coms from eBay or PayPal. Once you know what to look for, you can be pretty sure what is legit and what is spoof. If in doubt, report it anyways and eBay and PayPal will respond with wether it is spoof or legit. Been there, done that..

I will continue using PayPay and I am going to be using eBay as a merchant sometime this winter. We have stuff to liquidate for the in-laws.. and eBay is the best place for it.. so we are going to start..

One needs to remember a few things...

1. Never ever respond to these queries without going through spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com

2. Never ever diviulge your username, password or VISA/MasterCard etc info in an online form anyone who sends you stuff like this.

3. Always examine the sending addy. and the LINK to respond. If it does not have this as a reply addy to
DO NOT REPLY as it is most likely spoof..

4. Read and keep current with the spoof policies of both eBay and PayPal.. it is a good way to do business if you are prepared. Remember, eBay and PayPal always address there correspondence to you... not to - dear eBay Member or PayPal account holder...
