program for computing interest
Several years ago i used to have a program for computing interest and payments on loans that woudl print a payment sheet. You could enter the amount of loan, interest, and length of loan and it would print a payment sheet showing amount of interest and principle for each payment. if extra principle were paid you could enter that and it woudl recalculate. That was 3 computers back, and it was a DOS based program, which I assume if I could find the disks for probably wouldn't work on my XP media system. Does anyone know of a simialr program for a reasonable price?

I think I had a copy of one of them too. I now have a TI Business Analyst pocket calculator that does the payment thing but won't print an amortization table.
I tried mortgage payment calculator in google and found these sites:
http://www.planningtips.com/mortcalc_js.html
http://mortgages.interest.com/content/calculators/monthly-payment.asp
The first is just a payment calculator, the second does the other things you asked about. I am sure there are other eager lenders out there with web sites that do the calculation. These were just sites that came back on the first page from Google.

John:
Even Windows XP will run DOS Based Programs.
What you need to do is use the DOS Shell..
Example:
Ping.exe is a DOS command that will send a ping to any IP address or even a main url and is used to test turnaround or return times as well as connectivity. Very useful. Same with tracert.exe. These are both basic DOS commands.. and are part of the toolkit for network nerds... to test your internet connection.
You can usually find the DOS Shell or Command Prompt, under Accessories I think.. (I usually move all that stuff to my Utilities Folder, so it is never where Microsoft wants me to have it... I am kinda contrary that way ) I have run DOS, Win3.x and Win9x programs all under Windows XP and they run fine. However.. programs that need a specific amount of free ram loaded into himem might have problems as himem.sys is no longer a part of the main boot strings.... and therefore the DOS based program will not see it.
If you find the discs, try em.. I would
