The offset axe was indeed used for hewing beams, we always called it a Broad Axe. Another hewing instrument was the adz, which was also called a foot axe. In shape it resembled a hoe with a curved handle,about the same length as a splitting axe. I believe the chisel that fits in an anvil is called a hardie.

I found one of those Ford wrenches in my grandfather's garage one day. I thought it was neat that the Ford logo was cast into the steel. Also, he told me the square tip was used to unscrew some square head bolts to check fluid levels somewhere. I believe his came from a Model A.
