Too Old to Cut the Mustard
I'm not talking about the song. It is my memory, or lack of, that is giving me problems. I bought a 16 foot trailer several months ago. I purchased a liscense plate shortly thereafter but didn't attach it as it the trailer needed some work before using it. I told a fellow to pick it up the trailer yesterday to do the welding for mounting a new set of lights. I can't locate the liscense plate. I distinctly remember placeing them where I could find them later, I just can't remember where I put them. Anyone else have these problems? Now to the song. A country song recorded in the 1950's, I think, but I don't remember the recording artist. Anyone know? Dan

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Dan,
When I was about 14, I was riding with my grandfather and grandmother. We passed a couple of young girls walking along the sidewalk. My grandfather looked over to my grandmother and said "Gert, I'm going to trade you for 2 thirtyfive year olds" to which she replied "Steve, you're too old to cut the mustard."
I was sitting in the back seat of a 60's something Fairlane laughing under my breath until my grandfather replied, "I may be too old to cut the mustard but I'm not too old to lick the jar." My laughter was no longer silent
I too put things where I know they won't get lost. I'm still looking for most of them

Dan, I thought it was Ernest Tubb. But I googled it and from what I gathered Bill Carlisle wrote and sang the song. Maybe Ernie's version is the one I remember. About forgetting where you put things. I am trying to get the pool ready and I was checking out the filter. I distinctly remember telling myself that I would put the plugs in a place where I could find them this spring. Well. I looked for a while and found one half buried in the dirt several feet from the pool. I never found the other one. I know that I didn't just throw them on the ground last fall and tell myself that I could just sift through the dirt to recover them this fall.

Dan,
I remember the song, but I think it is from the early '50s. I remember it as a duet, but can't rember who the artists were. I guess I'm too old to remember.

There was one recorded version I recall was one that was a duet that had Grandpa Jones, of Grand Ole' Opry and Hee-Haw fame as the lead.
There were earlier versions, though....probably as early as the 1930's, as My Grandparents had a 78 for their victrola of that recording. I thought it funny as a kid, and used to play it quite a bit.
My grandfather used to sing it when it was just he and I working on something.
You can tell from the sound of it, that it dates from near the point where Jazz, Ragtime, and Bluegrass parted company.

Sometimes I'll buy a replacement for something I can't find. When I get ready to store the replacement, I'll find the original in the same place I was ready to put the new one. So here's the tip, if you can't remeber where you put something, don't bother trying to remember where you put it. Just decide where you will put the new one, and look there.
I may not be able to cut the mustard like I once could, but I keep getting better at cutting the cheese.

The license plates would be under the stack of papers and projects on my desk.
Or, I left them on the counter at the license plate office. Been there, done that. What really gets bad is finding those little current year stickers applied to license plates.
By the way, who or what are we talking about?

I too, a few months back realized my trailer plates were expired, bought a new set. The other day I went to hide something along the side of my truck seat and Yup... there was a set of plates for the trailer along with two packs of hacksaw blades. Wonder when I bought those blades, and what for? Can,t wait for Easter next year, surely by then I,ll be able to hide my own Easter eggs,...... if I can remember when Easter is!
Welcome to the Club!
And oh yes I have made several trips with that trailer before finding the plates.
