A while ago, we did that look at your place from the sky. Here was mine

Anyway, i knew i had a better arial picture. I finally found and was able to get someone to get it scanned for me. Here it is. The big house was built in 1905. The little house my dad built for my mom in the 60's, the house has lasted longer then the marriage did.

Doesnt look the same anymore as in the picture, in 1992, all but 10 acres was sold to the state to become part of the biggest horse-state park in the nation. Cowboy, ifn you look real hard you will see the many poles of junk underneath the tree canopy.

Notice the nicely manacured yard! The army national gaurd came in with helicopters, hooked up to the two wire corn cribs, and flew off with them after the sale. what a sight. 8) The other corn cribs hauled off. The concrete and cattle shed buried, that the majorty of the changes.

If you get a microscope out, you might just be able to see a point fast hitch implement behind the middle machine shed, halfway buried in mud. Didnt realize what was before, now i do, next trip home, it will be going for a ride. 8)

A great pic Video doc. I wonder what's in those silos? As cowboy says, junk, never. I'm always driving around looking under other people's hedges, from the roadside of course.

Doc,

You may have started something here. I recently got an aerial picture of the farm where I was raised, (from 9 to 18 ). In those days (1955), they didn't take color photos, but rather, tinted the black and white photo by hand I've always thought it was funny they chose to tint the John Deere A RED!!! :D  :D

This is a digital photo of the original that now hangs in my office.

Image

In more recent years I got a picture of our own place in black and white taken in 1998. It's maybe 8 miles from the home place. It's amazing how much the trees have grown since. I'll have to get a ride soon to take my own digital photos.

Try this for photos

MSN is currently trying out a Beta version of their mapping program, now called Windows Live Local, which now has really good aireal photos. Here is the link:

http://local.live.com/default.aspx?wip= ... ture=en-US

It is a little tricky to play with, I think they are still working out some of the bugs. The easiest way I have been able to locate something is to do a driving directions map for your exact address, then in the from box, just put the local zip code in. It makes a short driving directions map, but zooms you in to the correct locations. Click on the little flag that indicates your house, then look over to the top/left of the map. There is an option for aireal phots, then if they have recent flyover info, there will be a box with a picture of buildings which says "There is bird's eye imagry for this location.

If you click on this box, it opens up all of the photos for that area, lets you zoom in, and even flip the photo around to look from different directions.

This just came out in the last two weeks, and it is really cool to try out.

Have fun,
Bill

Pretty good. They have the same problem as all the other mapping programs. My road in Franklin NY starts low numbers at Franklin Walton Road and not at 9 miles away at Snake hill road as they show it. I have contacted a number of mapping program people to no result. They also show my address 3203 located at 1 East handsome brook as other programs do also. I just hope the E 911 we spent big bucks for has it right. The local electric co had my address wrong too. They had me on the other side of the road. NYSEG was the only one to admit and fix their error.
I can find my place by following the road to the intersection of EHB and Cary road. The areial it brings up is rather nice and sharp. It seems to be between 7 and 15 years old. A large buldozing took place to prepare for a modular on neighboring property back then doesn't show. It sat for a number of years with no further work till 4 years ago when a septic, welll and a pad was put in. The modular went in 3 years ago. My garage that went in 3 years ago doesn't show either. I tried to email the view to my self as a trial to post it here but I still have more to learn about that part.

I tried live beta.. and all I see is a great big expanse of nothing............

funny, considering I live just about at the end of the runway. You can see the runway, but that is it.....

I ain't holding my breath... even Google's pics are almost 3 years old..

Nice big willow trees in the first picture George. Also did you touch up the photo to add red? The pole barn is not the place to peak, but into his life. Alot of value there.

This was my grandpa's farm in the late fifties, early sixties. The house and quonset were new at the time. The old silo is visible; I helped take that down in the late 80's. The new silo was in the works. The old house sat below the the new one. Grandpa dug the foundation with the 8n that he had; he still shakes his head when he sees an 8n and wonders why he ever bought one. He was an MF all his tractor farming life after that first 8n. We spent many hours playing in the grove, bounding about in the hay shed and shot many birds out of that slough hole. It was small the year this was taken, but I remember it overrunning the field road quite a few times. I learned to drive the tractor on that field road. My stories abound from the memories I have. Grandpa sold the farm too early, I was only 16 and my dream of owning it died with the sale. It has changed so much in the past few years, that I haven't even been able to drive buy in the past few years. I sure miss the place, but it is fun to reminisce with grandpa about the farm; it always brings a gleam in his eye and a bounce in his step.

Here's the farm that was in my family for over 300 years (it's a digital photo of a framed b&w that was colorized). My mom grew up here when it was a working farm, and when I was a kid it was operated as Pine Grove Farm & Cabins, a vacation spot. In addition to the farmhouse, there were 11 cabins nestled in amongst the pine trees. We had a huge vegetable garden which we picked veggies daily for the dining hall, and when I was young I mowed the field with my grandfather's '61 Ford Workmaster, which I still have. The utility/farm vehicle was a '55 Jeep CJ3A on which I learned to drive when I was 13 (there was always a trailer behind it too, so I had to learn to back up at the same time). In the early 70's my grandparents retired, built the home in which I now live (next door), and my parents subdivided the property before it was politically incorrect to do so. These days the original barn and attached carriage house are all that remains. Image
