When the wind blows!!

Postby Harold R » Mon Feb 20, 2006 11:55 pm

Don't see this very often. I think my watch started to run backwards. This was not far from George Willers place.

Bottom left corner of the screen is a wind direction/speed readout.

is that the 286 figure, and if so is that KM or Miles per hour? Either, and there wouldn't be much of anywhere left! Hope Geouge is OK

Pat.....the first number is direction, 286 degrees means the wind was for all practical purposes....from the west. The velocity was 193 knots per hour. Just say better than 200 mph. I'm sure George barely felt it. It was about 7 miles above his house...in the Jet Stream. KTOL is Toledo, Ohio. If I remember George lives about 10 or 15 miles east of Toledo. 8)

Why were you flying over George's :?: Does Bigdog know about this :?: Those arrows are pointing you in the right direction and those numbers are hits from the locator beacon, aren't they HR :?:

Harold,

I'm not familiar with that display, since nearly all my flying was with needle/ball & airspeed and occasionally with a venturi driven AH. If I read it right, from that position if you'd turn right about 35 degrees for 45 miles, you'd be here in nothing flat! :D That puppy is scootin! Aren't tail winds great? Too bad they don't last as long as headwinds. :(

Ah George so you are a "Seat of the Pants" flyer? Have you still got your Biggles books and your goggles?

Oh, and Harold, thanks for the enlightenment,
It has been a little nagging thought in my mind since youth saying t'would be nice to be able to fly a plane.
But nothing ever came of it, never mind, I've got three cubs to fly instead!

Pat, my avatar photo was taken at the great and historic aerodrome at Le Ferte Alais. I played there as a child.....long before it became famous! Just do a google search of the place. 8)

Our guys of late have been talking about the winds aloft also. Seems 100+ has been common this winter. Yrs ago when I first started with this company we were enroute to Delaware and I saw ground speeds of around 750 on the way over. That was in a Westwind II so the winds were probably that strong.
What were you in? I noticed the TCAS on the MFD.

I can't remember if I was going to a pre-buy or school now, that was 1987.
