I have a pair of black wingtips I got my freshman year of high school in 1978. I not sure of the brand. Mason’s maybe. They have been half soled twice and had new heels put on at least 3 times. They still wear great and with a little elbow grease, some kiwi black polish, and my shoeshine brush they look like new. I have a pair of bass Penny loafers about the same age

For comparison, a pair of shoes that you buy today, will last about two years.

About 1 year for tennis shoes and perhaps 2 years for quality work boots.Don McCombs wrote:For comparison, a pair of shoes that you buy today, will last about two years.

Re: Old Shoes
I have a pair of Chippewa wedge sole 6” work boots I bought in 1979. Don’t wear them much anymore but they fit perfect and are wicked comfortable. Fully leather lined. I’m thinking either 4 or 5 resoles. Exterior leather is cracking.

Re: Old Shoes
Guess I am out on this one. 1980 would have found me getting ready for Kindergarten.
Do those bronzed "first pair" of baby shoes count?

Re: Old Shoes
I bought a pair of English leather shoes in 1984 in Colraine NI, and have worn them constantly, having them half soled and heeled three times and wear them occasionally still, but the leather in the uppers is beginning to show cracks. They were expensive at the time but I’ve had my money’s worth out of them. They are still on my shoe rack and I’d hate to throw them out.

Got a pair of Rocky jump boots that I wore on duty now just polish up and wear for Blue Knights dress functions. Have had them probably close to 20 years now.
