Warm hands ?

Postby Mainely Saws » Thu Nov 15, 2018 9:13 am

Good morning folks :coffee: ,
I would like to know what make/kind of gloves/mittens people are using to keep their hands warm while plowing snow . I love plowing with the cub and hopefully with the 130 but now that I'm in my 60's my hands are a problem . I have used snowmobile type gloves and they are warm but they don't hold up to well changing the angle of the manual plow , adjusting chains , etc . My insulated work gloves hold up well but aren't very warm . I am looking at leather work mittens but would sure like to know what others are using in very cold temps to keep their hands warm ........

Thanks in advance !

Bob

I plan on using up a pair of Tractor Supply insulated work gloves every winter, can usually get them for $10-12. I buy a carton of HotHands hand warmers and put one in each glove on the back of my hand.

Tried other gloves and mittens but this has been the best overall option.

Thanks for the response Peter .With the gloves, do the HotHands keep your fingers warm ?

Bob,
They do a pretty good job - left hand on the shifter - blood flow is good, right hand on the steering wheel - I need to drop my hand and exercise the fingers every 15 minutes or so to keep the blood flowing.
All depends on how long I'm in the seat, how wet the snow is, how much "fuel is in in the furnace", i.e., did I eat before I start plowing.

These are what I'm using this year. Wiggy's stuff is awesome and the warmest on earth. I'm sure they won't work well as work gloves but I got them so my hands will stay warm while plowing snow here in Michigan.

I wear a pair of the brown Jersey gloves inside a pair of the convertible mittens if I absolutely have to go out in bitter cold weather. At 70 though I figure I have earned the right to stay inside in bitter cold except in emergencies. With everyone on our road having 4 wheel drives, and some of us a couple of them, pushing snow is no longer an emergency. :)):

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone ,
Winter arrived early this year as we have about 6" on the ground now. I have a small sharpening business so I have to get out and clear the driveway before I open for the day .I also clear some neighbors drives. My other means of clearing snow is a Toro Wheelhorse rider with blower which I like quite a bit but the hydrostatic drive gave up the ghost . Either way I'm out in the elements so warm hands are a necessity . Even at 28 degrees today my hands couldn't handle it well after an hour or so . I will definitely look into all of your suggestions .

Thanks again ,
Bob
