Garage Floor Drain Question

It might be possible to buy a plastic drain smaller than what you need, stuff the drain full of newspaper and then set the new drain in concrete to fill the gap. After the concrete has cured remove the grate and pull the newspaper out. Basically create a concrete reduction bushing

I’m going to have to start paying Eugene a consulting fee. He gave me the best advice on breaking up my concrete steps with the feathers and wedges. Now he had a good idea using treated lumber. I had a part of a treated 2 x 6 sitting around from a past project. I don’t have a bandsaw but I have a miter saw. I was able to cut it up and create a sturdy and functional grate. Fortunately there’s a fairly wide ledge for the boards to sit on. The clay insert walls aren’t straight up and down. They slant inward so it would have taken more time than I was willing to spend to get it to fit perfectly but it’s solidly in place.

The floor is heavily pitted and I cover it with two vinyl garage floor mats. The seam is right down the middle of the grate so you rarely see it anyway. The water just seeps through the gap in the seam of the vinyl. It’s no work of art but it will do for this purpose.

If the floor was in real good shape, I wouldn’t need to vinyl mats to cover it, so I probably would’ve opted to buy the steel one for $198.

Lyle: My consulting fee bill is in the mail. Prefered customer discount of 10% if paid in within 30 days.

Frequently use the feathers and wedges. Broke up the sidewalk in front of the fixer upper house and part of a 30' x 30' drive of the back of the fixer upper.

The grate will keep someone from breaking an ankle. Looks good. Easily replace if/when needed.

I happend to pull the flanged plactic one out of the pipe while at my brothers yesterday and measured the side that fits in the pipe. It was 11 3/4"!
