Re: Who's picking their first corn?I think the only corn picked in my town, so far, was started under fabric, but we are getting closer and closer to picking corn grown without fabric.
But then we almost never get 3-digit temperatures around here, and for that I am very thankful. I've seen summers with less than 5 days over 90 degrees, although I'm not liking this year too much. REMEMBER: Keep it correct, or you may have to face the

Re: Who's picking their first corn?Put electric fence up today, better to be a few days early than one day late. Our area has had enough rain to keep crops looking well. Do not have to go far from this area to see crops under stress.

Re: Who's picking their first corn?Picked and ate 5 dozen roasting ears Friday and Saturday.
Picked and canned 10 or 12 dozen today. I try to avoid working on Sunday, but it was ready and the earwoms are terrible here this year. Justin
Re: Who's picking their first corn? This will probably be the last entry because if I am picking corn EVERYONE is picking corn or is long past. Picked yesterday. Northern Early is a 67 day corn so it was about right. Vern

Re: Who's picking their first corn?We picked our first today. Bev wanted to wait a few more days till the silk really browned. I saw one ear a bird or some such had been at. I picked it in spite of her wishes. When she saw it was ready she said see if you can find some more. I felt them and found a few that were ready, YUM YUM YUM.
Edit to add. That was on Staten Island. We had to sell the farm in Franklin last spring. Bill
